At 46 years old I have been a fan from day one. First game was televised and I loved those uniforms.
OldSchool? Hell yes.

Welcome aboard to all new fans, here is to hoping that you don't wash out as Niner trolls. I hope that you get the same rush I did when the Seahawks grabbed me for life.

I really don't mind new fans as long as they are still around when things are not always going so well.
Going thru the crap times (see the Behring years, 2-14, the screw job that was XL*, etc) will make it that much sweeter when the Hawks are hoisting the Lombardi Feb 2nd! :th2thumbs:

I originally joined this forum under another name in, let me think, 2003 maybe 2004. But then I moved back to Washington and stopped coming here, and forgot about the old user name and all of that, so now I have this one. But I've been a hawk fan since I could remember rooting for football, so 1983 or something like that.

And as a person who was in the military for 9 years, and meeting lots and lots of fans from other teams, and living in hte Sameheart of Packers, Redskins, and Jaguars (lol) fanbases, i can tell you that other teams have much larger traveling fanbases than we do. The Packers and the Redskins contingent is freaking huge, those cheeseheads love their Pack, and the Steelers fans, they are just as bad. I would include the Cowboys fans, but that is only true in years that the Cowboys are winning.
Same deal for me except it was right at the time of the scout.com split.

Not that it means anything but I've been a fan since I was 7, which was day one 1976. The reason the hawks are getting so much national attention NOW vs then over some of the other good Hawks teams of the past is that they are the deepest team talent wise in the NFL, the always positive attitude coming from the coaching staff, their bruising style of play, the dominance at home, the personality a of some of the players, how passionate the 12's are, and how the media is different and the internet which didn't exist back then. We live in a 24 hour news cycle now, so the "reality" in which we live is much different from the past. If I wanted to watch Hawks highlights in the past I was at the mercy of the networks, now in the internet age I can go on to YouTube and watch me at my leisure.

Just means you're old... lol
Touché. My knees and back remind me of that quite often.

It's not the years it's the mileage. Some put a lot of hard miles on a chassis in a short period of time, while other can still look good coming out of the garage after 50 or 60 years. Antiquated but looking good.

There's a team that gains a large, national fan base every year. Usually a small group of teams actually and as the season plays out that often changes.

I cringe every time I see someone that's joined in 2013.....I know I'm not alone.

Not sure why you would cringe. Some of the most diehard Seahawks fans I know are not members of .NET.

I've lurked for years and years, but the truth is some people are not interested in posting on internet forums.

On the flip side, I get it, too. There are a lot of bandwagon fans jumping on as quick as they can now that the Seahawks are the most talented team in the league.

You know, it's funny, this new-found fandom. Weird. Unprecedented, for Seahawks fans anyway. I welcome new fans. How else are we to grow as a fan base if not by new fans? How else are others supposed to join the ranks of the 12s and root for the Seahawks? We've always complained (a little proudly, perhaps) that we never really had very many fans. Well that's changed now, and like it or not, we're becoming popular. Embrace it. Love it. Encourage it.

I definitely encourage it, but also dislike when fans who have been ultra-critical of the Seahawks in the past start singing their praises. In these cases, it's more than just normal Seattle fan doom and gloom. I listened to their remarks and read their FB posts from the past and see what they say now and it's night and day. They HATED the PC hiring but are now singing his praises. I get that opinions change, but the over the top negative ones who now want to talk about what great fans they have been over the years get under my skin a little bit. I know guys at work that claim they are Seahawks fans but they're already setting the stage for the Seahawks to either not make the SB or lose if they do make it. I just don't get it. I know as Seattle fans we're in a bit of unchartered waters, but there is no reason to believe that we are not the absolute favorites to win our first SB trophy this year.

Then again, I'm not the fan police. People show their fandom in all sorts of different ways. Proud to be a 12 and this is an amazing ride.

I'm one of those Alaskans that learned about the Seahawks partly based on locality. One of my dad's best friends lived in Seattle but they flew together here in Alaska and whenever we traveled, it was a requirement to add Seattle as one of our stops. The Seahawks quickly became my favorite team.

When I really started enjoying them though was when Dave Kreig became the QB. Loved his back story (Milton College) and the fact that he took this team to new heights. We were so close to going to the Superbowl a couple of times and had a team that could have won it. I remember Steve Largent catching his 100th TD catch and saying "I'm glad that Dave is the one that threw it." I believe he said that because he didn't think that Krieg got the recognition that he deserved. Loved it when he made it to the Pro Bowl too. And of course Krieg is only 4 months older than I am so that helps me to identify with him too. :th2thumbs:

There are a lot of Seahawks fans in Alaska, but because Mark Schlereth is from Anchorage, and Daryl Colledge is from North Pole (where i live) some Alaskans became Redskins/Broncos/Packers/Cardinal fans.

I still remember being a Viking and, yes, STEALer fan before we had a pro team in Seattle. I remember one of the original team name suggestions was "Seattle Kings" GAG!! So glad they settled on a proper football name.

Wasn't Osprey's ever a choice? I get Seahawks but most have no idea that it's a nickname for the osprey and would be far more understandable to people outside the Pacific Northwest. Just curious given I'm not old enough to have participated in the naming contests or polls.

There's a long and amusing (partial) list of names that were suggested. Ospreys isn't on it but I can't find anything definitive on whether it was ever suggested.

Wow, we missed out on a great opportunity to be the Seattle Peckerwoods.

Thanks for the information. Given the choices Seahawks work just fine.:)

I'm good with the whole mythical/spiritual creature thing. 3/4 of the population would have to google 'osprey' anyhow.

Whether or not the above is true, 'Go Hawks' is certainly a lot catchier than 'Go Ospreys' or Go Preys" :)

True dat! It wouldn't sound right if Russell said those other choices. Seahawks was the correct choice.
