With the performances of both Myers and Dickson, this is by far the best kicking/punting tandem this team has ever had. Those two positions are soooo underrated as one is linked to direct points and the other to field position.

Myers and Dickson deserve :2thumbs:

Absolutely awesome play from both of our kickers!

I remember being a bit worried about Myers early last year- probably because of the kicker debacles before his signing. But he has been crazy consistent since then. What's he up to now- 33 straight fg's?

Dickson's punt placement early in the year went unappreciated because despite pinning teams inside the 10 the D gave up long drives (ie the Vikings game)

I agree on both counts. Yesterday, Dickson pinned the Rams inside their own 15 three times. None of his punts resulted in touchbacks. The Rams started just one drive outside their 30 (the one following our 3-and-out after the goal line stand) all game. Only two of Dickson's five punts were returned, one for 9 yards another for 1 yard.

Myers hit a 49 yard FG in the cold weather at sea level, also made a tackle on a kickoff return.

But I don't want to talk about our punt return team (guess why).

The Hawks have had great punters and kickers in the past, but when looking around the league now.......I believe that we have the best combo in the NFL.

I don't understand how Dickson didn't make the Pro bowl, when he beat Jack Fox in 2 out of the 3 main categories for punters? And as far as I'm concerned, pinning the opposition inside the 20 yard line is the most important.

Dickson: Average Distance: 49.3, Inside the 20 yard line: 31, Fair Catches: 12
Fox: Average Distance: 49.1, Inside the 20 yard line: 26, Fair Catches: 15

Hard to tell. We had 7 selections, tied for the most in the league with the Chiefs, Ravens, and Packers, including 2 from our special teams, so maybe some voters felt the urge to spread the wealth.

I don't get too hung up on Pro Bowl selections. The game itself is a joke that doesn't include a lot of the star players either due to their participation in the SB or because they duck it intentionally. I generally don't care about individual awards.

Given how Pete likes to play things close to the vest and how our games almost always come down to the final minutes, you can't possibly overstate the value and importance of guys like Myers and Dickson. Worth their weight in gold. Best kicking tandem in the league and they both deserve huge props. And FWIW, I agree that Dickson should have gotten the Pro Bowl nod over Fox.

Lot of individual awards are tied to salary bonuses, so it's a pretty big deal to them. Don't know if that's true for Dickson or not. And of course, it's always nice to be recognized by your peers for being the best at your position.

As for the Pro Bowl game itself, I agree it's a complete joke, and pretty much unwatchable from my perspective. Pretty sure I heard or read that there will be no actual game this year due to covid. But for the players themselves, it's really all about the recognition and possible bonuses. And it's added fuel for future contract negotiations.

Yeah, but it makes a difference to the players and I'm not just talking about just a notch in their belts either. The majority of NFL contracts have bonuses in them for Pro-bowl selections, and every player gets a percentage of their jersey sales and it's proven that Pro-bowler's see a boost in that department. Let's not forget potential endorsements, so that's affecting them directly in the pocket book, and for their career legacies. Franchises also value them because it reflects on the organization's performance.

You have to admit, when some ex-player gets introduced, it defiinitely adds to your respect when you hear something like "The 3-time pro-bowler" before their names, because it shows that they weren't just any former player.

I guess we were both writing these reasons pretty much at the same time  but yes, good point on the future contract negotiations. That's definitely one of the bigger differences when it comes to being a pro-bowler or not.

I understand what the Pro Bowl means to players. I was speaking of my attitude towards it as a fan. I don't give a rip about it, and I'll bet I'm not alone. Without doing a search, can anyone remember the winner of last year's game? Which conference leads the series? Can anyone name a Pro Bowl record held by any specific player?

I would like to see them find some other way to honor the game's best players rather than having them participate in another game, and a joke of one at that.

Nope  . And I agree, that with the exception of baseball, all the major league all-star games are a joke. But again in those sports too, it's all about the selection.

I know you were just plagiarizing my comments. It's ok, I understand. ;) :sarcasm_off:
