Something occurred to me while re-watching Broncos vs Seahawks (as well as a few threads here lamenting our offense)
There were some 4th quarter drives where Welker did some shallow cuts and as soon as he caught the ball in my mind was "Kam go boom! Kam go boom!" but instead the receivers were already in a position to hit some really good blocks.
Seeing as how we also do shallow cuts, how come the Seahawks can't employ some of this? Especially with Harvin, can you imagine him crossing the field and getting the pass AND having blocks ready and waiting for him to speed down the field?
Instead what I usually see is a receiver getting the ball and then fighting for extra yardage on his own.
The only thing I can think of is that all the receivers try to get open, letting Wilson do his multiple reads and hit the open guy, but since all the other receivers were also trying to get open and any of them could have gotten the pass, they won't be in a position to block.
Thinking about it now, that is some pretty sophisticated play calling by Denver and by Manning if he is reading the D and changing the play via audible because of his pre-snap read. Almost as if Manning does his pre-snap read, sees what the D will do, calls the audible for Welker to do a shallow cross and all the other receivers to get into position to block, and then Welker is his first and only read and it is successful, and it was, at least two or three times on drives in the 4th quarter against the Seahawks
So... can the Seahawks employ any of this more "sophisticated" play calling to make our receivers more lethal? Or does the offense need to change in a different way? Or are you happy with the offense as is?
