First - what do you all think? Personal opinion, they have too much history so they didn't want to mess with the design. That said, they wanted to do something to add "pop" to the uniform, but I'm not sure that was the answer.

Second - Are they stuck with using this helmet for the next 10 years? Someone was saying that Seattle couldn't do a grey/silver helmet because we can only change the uniform every 10 years. Thus, does Minnesota have to wear these for 10 years?

Does the NFL hate money? Why do they have this silly 5 year rule? College teams are RAKING in the money by changing their uniforms and having alternates. The NFL could learn a thing or two from them.

For dozens of reasons: Brand marketing, fan loyalty, costs associated with creating new jerseys, confusion...

No they do not hate money, just the opposite. Keeping a design and color by a certain manufacturer is much more easy to control than changing all the time. The knock off game would be even more of a problem if you changed on a regular basis.

Okay - the Oregon Ducks have built an empire through their constantly changing uniforms. Now I'm not saying that teams should change them like the Ducks, but the NFL is clearly interested due the throwback uniform rules. College football loyalties, I would argue, are greater than pro football.

Living in Oregon, I see every form of fake "O" out there every day. A huge amount of the merchandise I see people buy, display, etc., is fake. The NFL likes to have more control.

Love the flat purple. The time is coming when some team is going to go "pro combat" with their uniform. The switch to flat colors is just the beginning.

Im not sure what you mean by "pro combat" but if you mean all flat uniform the BC Lions debuted their 3rd uniforms last night. All flat black (gun metal grey is the official name) and they looked awesome.

Absolutely, they have no idea how to make it. :sarcasm_off:

Just because it's worth a lot, doesn't mean they couldn't up their revenue allowing jersey changes and mods. All the college teams that expirement with jerseys, barring Oregon, still keep their traditional look i.e Florida state, Boise, VTech, etc.

I'm not crazy about the matte helmets as I think the traditional style looks best.

However, nothing is as bad as those Jags helmets with that stupid gradient in it.

Merchandise is a small % of revenue.

From what I have seen, each teams makes around $5 million a year from merchandise.

In 2010, they each made over $118 million per team from television revenue.
