Never heard of Michael Barrett....but I don't think Jackson had a chance staying on roster....so received something at least.

Barrett played 6 years for the Wolverines. He was redshirted his first year. After that he had a very good productive college career. Was a team captain for the the Wolverines last year when they won the National title. He was selected by the Panthers in the 7th round at pick 240. Biggest knock on him is his size. 6’ 239 lbs. Michael logged in over 200 snaps on special teams Unser Jay Harbaugh who is now our special teams coach

Strange trade. I get that they wanted to trade Jackson. But a proven veteran CB just for a 7th rd rookie LB? I guess it'll free up a bit cap space. But still, a trade including a late round draft pick next year would've been nicer.

I disagree. Michael Barrett is about as good as they'd get from a seventh rounder, and Mike Jackson would've gotten them a future seventh if anything. I'll take the scheme fit LB now over a future seventh.

Little bit info from Seahawks Wire on both Michael's:

Originally a seventh round selection by Carolina in the 2024 NFL draft, Barrett is now reunited with his former defensive coordinator at Michigan in head coach Mike Macdonald. As for Jackson, he is reunited with a former Seahawks coach in Dave Canales, who is now the top man for the Panthers.

Barrett spent six years with Michigan, and became a legitimate force for the middle of the Wolverines defense. In his last two years with Big Blue, he recorded 137 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two interceptions. He was a Team Captain for Michigan last year, as the Wolverines went 15-0 and defeated the Washington Huskies to be National Champions last year.

Oh boy, just got pumped.

Forget the fact that he was a 7th rounder, I truly believe Mike had a heavy influence on this trade considering he used to coach Barrett in college. Mike knows what he's getting and we are a little thin on LB. It's always a great thing when a coach specifically knows a player from coaching him and personally selects him. This should make everyone happy, imo.

Bob Condotta speculated that Jackson would be cut or traded because he thinks that the Seahawks are going to keep Dee Williams on the 53 man roster as a cornerback and primary punt returner.
