The posted video does not clearly say anything, the last part of the video starts after he is already in handcuffs. Maybe you can go back and see the comments he has made about the incident.

There is nothing in that video that can disprove Michael's side of the story.

The LVPD are in deep trouble over that arrest, and a civil suit, which MB would probably win, would be extremely damaging to LVPD.

It would open them up to other civil suits where a lawyer could use MB's arrest to encourage a jury to award their client. LVPD is only going to release what they want to release. And it took them a suspiciously long time to do that.

I'm not saying that Michael's side of the story is the truth, or that LVPD's version is bogus.
What I am saying is that Michael Bennett has a very good chance of winning a Civil Suit against LVPD, and because of that, LVPD will cover their ass in any way (legally) possible. Their staff lawyers I'm sure, have been running the show once they found out who they arrested.

None of us will ever know exactly what went on.

I doubt anyone outside of the people who were present at Michael Bennett's arrest will ever know exactly what went down. Even witnesses of a crime or an arrest are usually so amped, that they miss a lot of what actually happened.

This had been proven over and over. They will get a group of people, tell them that they are studying how well a witness remembers events, stage the event, and the witnesses rarely give an accurate description of what happened.

Myself, I believe that Michael Bennett is sincere, and I also believe that he is describing his arrest as he best remembers it. Imagine the amount of adrenaline pumping through his system!

Then there's the after effect of having the shit scared out of you. There's the emotions, relief, anger (which is a natural reaction after a fright), puzzlement. I've felt all of those while guiding for Brown Bear in the Izembek National Wildlife Reserve. I had a sow and three large cubs charge me. Scared the every living shit out of me. I had a .338, but only 3 rounds. I thought I was done. But they stopped, 40 feet away, then left. I can remember that fear, followed by extreme anger. Anger is a natural emotional response to fear. Some things I remember crystal clear, but anything outside of my absolute focus on the bears, was non-existent.

So my point is this, WE will never know the complete facts unless a high definition video from a night vision camera appears. Police departments don't have the budget to buy thousands of high quality body cameras. So, 'after-the-fact' evidence is most likely going to be pretty weak.

I wonder if anyone here has any training knowledge or know what it is like to respond to a call of an active shooter in a public place in "Merica? It is very clear that Bennett was not involved in the shooting. Do we know what the description of the suspects were, besides being black? From the limited footage released I can only surmise that Bennett crouching down, going to cover from one area to the next led some officer to believe that he may be an active shooter or perceived his actions as a threat and that is the reason he was initially detained. When a call of an active shooter is made the information usually is not great, descriptions are often not bang on, and the response is, yes typically very heavy handed (guns out, intimidating formations, and yes guns being pointed) Police are going in to basically hunt down the threat, engage it and stop it. The lack of initial response at shootings like Columbine is why it is done the way it is done. Someone made a call that Bennett's actions could of resulted in him being a potential suspect. He was detained and released. Guess we don't know what happened totally as surveillance and video footage does not tell the entire story.

Police later attributed the report of gunfire at Drai's to the sharp sound of velvet rope stands being knocked to a tile floor at the Cromwell resort a few hours after the Aug. 26 fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor.

The past two companies that I've worked for in Seattle provide training on an active shooter.

The three steps are:
1) Run
2) Hide
3) Fight

That is the order in which they encourage you to act.

I don't think any video has proved anything. The police report and the video they've release omits a lot of things and basically says "he was a suspect and treated as such."

I get both sides kind of. On the one hand the video cleqrly shows the officers yelling for people to get out and Benett was doing that. On the other hand I kind of sort of get why he was suspicious by hiding and running. But me personally, I'd probabky do the same thing. Hide and then run. I don't think the videos show one side or the other yet.

So first police say they completely cleared the casino and found Michael Bennett alone hiding behind a slot machine.
3 weeks later video contradicts the police initial narrative so now mb didn't respond to commands there are dozens of people next to mb when they said stop many of which in the exact same crouching position....zero accountability from police , shifting stories ... idk about y'all but I believe the person who has stuck by his story the entire time ... not changed it after reviewing footage which is doctored and highly edited imho

He lied about it.... said he was discriminated against and clearly wasn't.
So do you stand behind the people in comments on every copy of this story calling MICHAEL BENNETT A THUG ?
There's a big segment in America that justifies police brutality and overreach regardless of facts ... I'm very ashamed at some comments I see from 12s calling our players code words for the n word

You sick of the protesting fix the gdamn problems then maybe America will be great again

I'm in this camp. I feel that which ever side you are on, coming into this particular story, you can find evidence to support your assumptions. It may prove out that this was not racial, was not an overt abuse of police authority. And I would hope, if after all the evidence is in, and it clearly shows one side or the other to be the case, that the police or Michael own up to it. But in the end, picking apart one case or another doesn't alter the reality there is police abuse. I would mention specific cases, but think that would just invite more cherry picking of evidence to support or not support the preconceived views on the subject.

I found this article to be very interesting and even handed.

This video proves nothing. Depending on which side you were on before this came out you're probably still on the same side. I'm biased but I tend to think the cops in this case were doing their job. Bennett took off running in an active shooter scenario and himself admitted he understood why they detained him. Nothing points to be racially profiled at all. The latino officer is about as professional as you can be in explaining the situation to him afterwards even though Bennett resisted somewhat and was obviously worked up. I have a hard time with anyone criticizing what they saw from the officers in this video. I also have a hard time believing they went from I'm going to blow your f-ing brains out to this but its certainly possible.

I had my doubts from the beginning but I was hoping Bennett was telling the truth but after seeing this I have even more doubts sadly. I fear he exaggerated his story to further his cause but I hope I'm wrong. I'm definitely pro law enforcement but I also want bad police work, especially when racially motivated to be severely punished and dealt with. I just don't think it was the case here.

My last point I think it was sad so many people jumped on this before seeing all the facts. Will Cain made the point that he said he wanted to wait to make judgement until more evidence was presented and was labeled a racist which is a sad representation of how social media and the media in general dictate thought in this country. I have no clue if I worded that right or it made any sense lol.

Stonecold good post. I like you, hope that we can definitively see one side or the other at being at fault and that they are forced to own up to it. Interesting article as well, I'm working my way throught it while working on a Saturday when I get a chance....

How do you go from a posters opinion to " the people in comments on every copy of this story"

Never read the story comments in the story's own comments section, they're uncontrolled and generally posted by "crazy people". Don't blame the Scientist for those.

I find it interesting that the cop's badge cam was strangely TURNED OFF during a "supposed active shooter situation".

I'm not anti-cop but I'm anti-police brutality..... cops act differently when they are being filmed by their badge cams and the general public. I don't know the whole story but the police are leaving out some details.

Even though I think the cops were completely justified in their actions this bothers me as well. I wish the body cam was turned on.

Something I forgot to mention earlier was that I was wrongly accused of something and detained for over an hour because of mistaken identity. The cop was a complete jerk to me the whole time and completely out of line. Me personally I was in zero mood to shake hands and tell the officer I completely understood why he detained me. I was so pissed I was lucky I didn't cause more problems afterwards. The officer attempted to shake my hand and I walked away saying a few choice words. Not condoning my behavior but if Bennett was treated as he said it doesn't fit his reaction after the fact. His actions combined with what we see 9 out of 10 times tells me the cops did their job professionally. Again I'll leave it open that I could be completely wrong but I'm not sure we will get any more information then we have now.

Unless the video shows thought bubbles inside the cops' heads it's not going to convince anyone entrenched on either side. The key element to targeting is what the cops were thinking. I completely understand that Bennett was running as others were. I also see that the way he was (smartly IMO) taking cover behind a slot machine and then running hunched over can also be interpreted as suspicious despite there being a perfectly good reason. In the first shot where the guy is pointing to the screen, Bennett appears to be the only person running hunched-over (again I think hunched over is smart).

The cops clearly are alarmed by the behavior by their words, they ask if he had a gun and neither of them can say for sure, and so they pursue him as if he's a threat.

And they are more courteous with him - before they know his name - than I've had cops be to me during a traffic stop. He is clearly freaked out and so they yell at him to get him in the car and avoid further panic response on his part. When he is in the car, they immediately explain that they understand his actions and why they took the actions they did. They make it clear they were worried about an active shooter.

They go out of their way to say he isn't under arrest and when he calms down they tell him he can get out again. All before they have his name.

TBH those were a couple of professional and calm cops in that video. Maybe the bodycam, had it been on, would have shown something different, but that footage helps the officers.

Still doesn't shed light on whether excessive force was used when initially neutralizing him. But Bennett's own verbal account doesn't convey excessive force.

Edit: It is of course possible they are being extra nice and calm once the cameras are on because they knew they just roughed him up when the body cam was off. I'm just comment on what the footage shows, not what it doesn't.

I look forward to the video of the arrest coming out. With the number of cameras around casinos it has to be out there. Though I have a feeling that if it comes out it won't be definitive enough to shed light one way or the other.

I guess I'm confused why you would assume he considers Bennett a thug just because some idiot posters in the comments section are calling him that. Do you think it's possible to think the cops did there job here and not think Bennett is a thug?
