This is not a thread to debate Wilson vs. Flynn, we have a few of those already.

I'm curious what people think about his NFL future. I am pretty positive he won't be re-signing here at the end of his contract, considering he wants (and probably deserves) to be an NFL starter.

He is a good quarterback from what hes shown (very limitied obviously), and there is always a shortage of starting QBs in the NFL.

Do you think he lasts his entire 3-year deal with Seattle as the backup and leaves for a starter position with another team at that time? or gets traded in the offseason?...... or does he end up starting for us eventually?

I like Flynn and have no problem with him on the team. I just think he probably feels he deserves more. :sob_story:

Personally, I see him leaving after his deal is up and signing with a team in desperate need of QB (like Seattle was in the offseason) and trying again for a starters spot. :les:

His future is backup QB or third string QB. He is not a starting QB in the NFL. There is nothing he does that is special except hold a clipboard. Allowing a rookie 3rd round QB to beat him out was as much telling of him as RW. It also says a lot that nobody was lining up for his services. He will probably be back in Green Bay next year if I had to guess. We will cut him at seasons end.

In the NFL you "deserve" nothing. You earn everything and he hasn't earned a chance to see the field on the Seahawks. You see Clipboard Jesus? Him and Flynn are the same. The only reason Hawk fans like him is they originally talked themselves into him being Matt 2.0, bought his jersey, only to see him lose his job.

I think he asks for and gets traded to another team. Tough to ask a guy of his talent to stay here as a back-up.

We cannot afford to cut him loose yet, but as soon as we can I bet he walks unless things change with a benching or an injury.....which I don't think a benching is likely.

He is correct there was little demand for him in the off-season.

Im sorry if you think Im trolling. I just don't see what others seem to see in him. He had a great situation in Green Bay to learn .....but the bottom line is I could go to Green Bay and learn a lot....doesn't mean I would be a good QB. People fell in love with the idea of him being Matt 2.0 (at least that is what I have concluded). Upstairs Im sure he has it all....I just don't think he has the physical skills to be more than an average to below average QB. Great backup...but we are not winning a superbowl with him. Nobody else wanted this guy in free agency.

I think he works the back channels to move on at the end of this season. There are opportunities out there and if he is to get his chance he needs to have his agent identify an opportunity for him. It would be tough, since teams didn't come after him hard this past off-season but there is a job out there for him.

Another scenario could un-fold here that allows him to get on the field this season and put up a body of work that would make it tough to not let him go into next season as the starter (ala Trent Dilfer vs Matt Hasselbeck). He would have to get on the field around game 9-10 to get that chance to impact planning.

He doesn't remain here past next season at worse.

I guess it all depends on how much playing time he ends up getting here and how he does. No one knows.
Heck RW could go down next play and Flynn could make the most of it and end up being our starter for good.
Or he could hold a clipboard for the rest of the year.

While still under contract, the Hawks would be foolish to let him go in any fashion until they have a suitable back-up to Wilson...and Portis isn't it.

The Hawks should draft another QB next year. If he is determined to be a suitable back-up, then and only then do you trade or cut Flynn.

I think we release him after the 2013 season, hold onto him as a backup through next year since we've already given him a chunk of money.

I think he could be a solid starter with a strong defense and an offense that fits him well.

Haha!

The thing that cracks me up about this whole thing is that BOTH sides of the debate extrapolate so much from so little data.

I guess Flynn sucks now because he a) never beat Aaron Rodgers out of his job, and b) didn't look good in preseason. Preseason is what really matters--forget about his record setting games in GB.

I am not posting this to bash on Wilson. The guy showed me something in the NE game, so I am done calling for Flynn.

Saying Flynn sucks is pretty flippin' laughable, though.

Yep. Im not sure how the cap works, but if Wilson continues to improve than I see them trading Flynn for the best offer they can get from a team who needs a QB. Then draft a backup or bring in a journeyman on the cheap to back up Wilson. Use the money they free up to bring in the cheap undervalued talent that this FO is so good at finding. (Except QB and WR(so far))

Just using the fact that he wasn't a hot commodity in free agency, he was a 7th round pick, and he failed to win the job in Seattle. Those are all decisions made my NFL front office people and coaches....not fans. So if you want to question front office people and feel like they don't know anything, PC and JS don't know anything....then go for it. Facts are facts though and I trust the judgement of front office people over fans all day.

Oh really? What are the winning lottery numbers this weekend since you apparently have this magical ability to look into the future.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Miami was competing with us for his services and it seems like there was another team or two in the mix as well. Flynn is underrated because he doesn't have a lot of great tools to work with; like a cannon, mobility and strength to break tackles; but he does have the ability to make quick reads, diagnose defenses, make accurate short to intermediate throws and win games. I'm not saying Wilson doesn't have this ability either, but sometimes I wonder if our coaching staff gets more enamored with how athletic a player is than how they play the game.
