Josh Naylor could be a huge addition, .243 avg, 31 Hr's, 108 RBI, 1.5 WAR, .776 OPS and 105 strike outs in 24. A guy can hope!
Naylor, Goldshmidt, Santana, and Walker off the table. Sadly, no, we can't hope. Not anymore. Hitters do not want to come here. Simple as.A guy can hope!

Or a team that might trade me at any minute who’s management admits things like keeping someone in triple A to avoid paying them more, or that winning just enough games to be on fringe is the goal…I wouldn't want to play in the least hitter friendly ballpark in MLB either if I was hitter. I also wouldn't want to play for a team that doesn't care about winning.
Outside of the stat boost pitchers get by playing half their games in T-Mobile, I can't imagine why anyone would want to play for the Mariners.
Trader Jerry will make some lateral trade that doesn't increase talent & they'll put the usual spin on it. Of course he'll tell us how they were allegedly in on everyone, but of course landed nobody. As always. They completely misjudged the player acquisition market this off-season & going back several years. They refused to trade their vaunted prospects when prospects still had value & now nobody wants prospects, they want ready to go players, which dealing players for players doesn't help the Mariners. All the years of never adding via Free Agency has killed this team, the roster is short on talent every year. Everyone knows the M's are desperate & never SPEND, so nobody is going to help them in these ridiculous trade rumors. The fact that this organization is still in love with platoons at multiple positions every year doesn't scream World Series contender.I have no idea how there will be 30k+ people at the stadium on opening day, but there will be.
That's what's SO infuriating as a fan. They've GOT the starting staff to compete at the highest level, and they've got/had a window of time where most of them are on cheaper, team friendly contracts. This is/has been the time to GO FOR IT! They've even got a few position players who are/could be as good as any other playing their positions. And to top it off, their division is winnable now.The Mariners have 4 excellent starting pitchers on relatively cheap contracts. Not to mention Munoz and Raleigh both being paid very little. Plus they will get Brash back this year. This is the time to take advantage of that.
If they commit to a reasonable payroll of $160-170 million, they can get two good bats, at either 2B, 3B or 1B. Two GOOD bats, not retreads or has-beens, makes you a contender. I don't see why you wouldn't do it.
Last year's payroll was $147 million. By comparison, the 2018 payroll was $162 million. You would have to be a fool to not realize that their window is now. Spend the money.
(I realize $160-170 million is a lot of money, it puts you in the top 10 in MLB payroll. But you know what? The Mariners are 10th in MLB revenues: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/which-mlb-teams-take-home-the-most-revenue/)

OMFG! I want to strangle ownership. We've needed two more good bats for a few years now. Get them. Make a few other moves to shore up the pen and balance the lineup. Be aggressive. The time is now. It's not going to get cheaper.
Even IF ownership tells "Jerry you can get to $170 mil for opening day"...... Does anyone REALLY think THAT guy is going to make the right moves.... Knowing his track record of flops? He has said it himself that he doesn't like signing GOOD free agents, he likes trades. And his trades are mostly not good, definitely don't raise the talent level on the major league roster because he hordes these prospects..... Prospects that the M's likely are going to ruin. For laughs let's just say Emerson, Farmelo, Young & Montez are all up by 2026-2027 with everyday roles..... Gilbert, Kirby, Miller & Woo are all now becoming very expensive, so again they will be looking to dump salary & start over again. And they held on to Harry Ford too long that they Mariner-ized him. He can't hit & his bat was his thing. He isn't a headliner in a deal for a legit player. They need to just be honest & admit to the fan base...... "We want to operate like KC, Oak, Cle, Min, Mil, Tampa, Cin & Pit". Just don't keep lying to us as if we're dumb & don't recognize what this is.The Mariners have 4 excellent starting pitchers on relatively cheap contracts. Headed to the Motor CityGleyber Torres is still out there, and he's looking for $16 million a year. That's totally within the Mariners' budget. They offered Santana almost that much. Go and sign Torres now and solve the second base problem.
For one-year $15 million! I find it hard to believe that we couldn't afford that. Dipoto's assessment of Torres must be different from mine. He's had an up-and-down career, but when he's good, he's really good.Headed to the Motor City
So no different than any other off-season led by DiBozo theFor one-year $15 million! I find it hard to believe that we couldn't afford that. Dipoto's assessment of Torres must be different from mine. He's had an up-and-down career, but when he's good, he's really good.
So what's the plan? Because there's really no free agents left. Amed Rosario? Brandon Drury? I think it's going to be bargain-basement shopping or dumpster diving again at second base. Jorge Polanco is probably the best second baseman still available, lol.
