I think he is fast heading to "overyhyped, overrated" draft pick territory.

Although I like the success he has had blocking kicks....
I would say Irvin was definitely overrated still the 15th pick with 8 sacks who can't stop the run. We need pass rush, not a run stopper, Clem, Bane, Branch and Big Red are there for a reason, we need a pass-defender/pass rusher, and Hunt can do both. Raw but has the physicals tools like Irvin had, just needs coaching and Hunt is the most unique rusher 6'8 270, almost like a Jason Jones role as a pass rusher, 2nd round would be a steal but i can see the Hawks taking him in the 1st just like Irvin.

I really dont like the dude from his tape. Seems to NOT be a football player. But, slowly but surely, I'm growing on the notion of taking him at #25.

I think the Hawks like their 1st rounders to be high-risk and high-reward types. That'd be hunt.

He's more of a 3-4 DE, and he needs a LOT of polish. He doesn't have that quick burst off the snap like we need.

We already have a project w/ Irvin. We don't need another....

No thanks. I know people will drool over his height and span, but I don't think he fits.

I'm not sure this is accurate. He gets off the ball very quickly. It's not all about height/weight, speed- due to his former discus career, he has abnormally strong upper body which helps him with pass rushing techniques and getting off blocks. Watch the tape if you haven't. He really impressed me.

I guess what I don't like about Hunt is that we already have a better version of him in Greg Scruggs. If we had a 100 man roster and Hunt was there in the mid rounds, bring him in. But if Seattle drafted him in the first two rounds thinking it would fix anything, it would be a horrible mistake.

I'll be frank, JS is making me nervous with the hints he's dropped. Not really a fan of the "unique" pass rushers (save John Simon) and the junior LB class underwhelms me.

Brock & Salk had quite a bit of fun talking about Margus Hunt on yesterday's show, around the 20 minute mark or so to the rest of the clip:

Personally, I think Hunt would be a beast/manimal. He's got ridiculous strength that Irvin, Jones and Scruggs don't have, plus more height/length. He's the type of guy that can just bull rush the tackles or stunt and collapse the pocket from the inside, not to mention his kick blocking skills. I'm all for him.

Irvin had a whole year to get ready for his big chance to impress. In minimal rotation he did "OK". Then when the money was on the line he face planted.

This kid from Estonia has tons of upside that hasn't been fully developed. We have lot's of cap. He is smart. He just learned how to play the piano last year. I like smart.

I wouldn't overlook the NCAA record in kick blocking by a kid that never played organized football before he stepped on a college campus. It would be an oddity and impressive by some big kid that grew up in the U S. It is mind blowing from a kid that never played football.

We have a glaring problem with close losses. Some of those close losses were from FGs during and at the end of a game.

What was or average loss by? 6 pts? If this kid could block 6 FGs and a couple of PATs in his rookie year I would take him just for that. That said..only if he drops to the second or third round.

I have a hard time faulting Irvin for his "one chance" considering he was playing without Clem or Jones and with an injured Red and Mebane.

I'm torn as heck on Hunt. Great first step and burst, but after the first move he's a non factor, either locked up by the blockers or lazy/disoriented running behind plays. And while he's big, tall, strong and fast, I see very little flexibility or agility.

Emory Hunt just tweeted that Fisher was thoroughly handling Hunt. Too bad Fisher is a top 10 pick- the guy is going to be elite. Watch the tape on him, he erases guys in the run and pass game. Reminds me of a young Joe Staley.

You mean that whole year as a rookie where he played a different position and was asked to fill in for a position he did not play all season after a full year of wear and tear on his body?

Not every rookie plays lights out their first year.

Although Irvin did lead all rookies in sacks despite being a part time player.

The bashing on Irvin is ridiculous.

No, he doesn't. We'll agree to disagree. I have watched the tape, and he is a physical specimen - just not sure that he fits our scheme. As I said, he seems more suited as a 3-4. Where would he play on our DE? He's certainly not a LEO...

We need an immediate impact pass rusher. We don't have the time to waste on another project. He needs a lot of refinement, IMO.

He's kinda got that Poe feeling to him. Not so much with their talent levels, but just how his stock shot up last year due to combine results and physic.

Is it possible that Margus Hunt is an actual "ManBearPig", half man, half bear, half pig. Why are they keeping his DNA a secret?

Wouldn't he be more of a pass rushing option at Red's spot? Not sure how he would handle two gapping, but that seems like the spot for him. (I think my brain just wants him to be a JJ Watt clone).

I'm not sure he's physical enough in the run game, but he could be a very interesting prospect.

Kind of an aside but I think it's a bad idea for us to go for an immediate pass rusher. Personally I think we should draft higher upside D-lineman. Regardless of who we take it's probably gonna take a while, immediate impact DE/DT's don't exactly grow on trees. I think we should probably go FA to get a cheaper DE (Osi for example) and also get a DT (Starks etc). At the same time we should draft at least one more high D-lineman for the future (and now, but not a guy that HAS to be good this year). We need to build a good D-line, not try a quick fix through only the draft.

Of course if there's a pass rusher who will have an immediate impact and be even more kick ass as he develops that's awesome too haha. Just not as likely.
