Devon doesn't have the typical Carroll measurement though

Makes up for it though with the way he hits. He's my favorite corner in this draft. A real tone setter.

Or Wilson. I strongly prefer Anderson or Carter over Wilson, but I think that Wilson is the most likely option at #5 for a variety of reasons.
Excellent post Better Jerhawk. I agree.

His measurables do seem to fit the typical Pete/John criteria and checklist

#5 seems awfully high for a CB when it isn't our primary need. Are people really thinking Witherspoon is a generational talent at CB? Seems unlikely. History says Pete likes his DBacks on 2-3 day.

Another reason why cornerbacks don't have as much positional value is that in the NFL, they are the second most likely to be injured (210 injuries in 2021-2022).

Like the Lions taking Okudah at number 3 a couple years ago and basically getting very little performance due to injuries.

I think if it's Darrell Revis or Sauce Gardner, you take him at number 5. Otherwise, it may not be worth it. It's a deep CB class. The question is whether there is much difference between the best of this class and , say, the tenth best in this draft.

Thanks Best Jerhawk.

Yeah, Wilson simply checks a ton of boxes. With Anderson likely to be gone, Wilson is likely the best edge on the board. He's the consensus #2 edge (thus at a position of need) with really good upside, outstanding tools, outstanding power, and no off the field issues.

To me, I like the kid, but 5 is too high for him. I'd much rather go Anderson or Carter. Or trade back. Or even go a completely different direction and take the leftovers of N. Smith or Murphy or Van Ness at 20... all three of these guys are inferior prospects to Wilson, but only just.

Pete built an all time defense from the secondary forward once before, wouldn't shock me if he goes the same route again. An ironclad secondary means the QB holds onto the ball longer, gives the front 7 more time to get there. I just don't know enough about Witherspoon to say if the value is there at #5 for him.

All you have to do is check out his YouTube highlights & it'll make sense. The guy brings it. He's a fun watch.

PFF gave him the highest grade for a CB. He put up Sauce like numbers.

But he hasn't been able to build a truly good defense for years and years. And how many great defenses are there in the NFL? San Fran and who else?

Is that really a viable plan as more and more rule changes benefit offenses? I'm not sure anymore.

I wonder if the focus needs to be about game changing football players. Maybe they're on defense, but maybe they're not. You've got to follow the talent you can acquire and build around it.

I think Will Anderson is probably the guy who would cause the least amount of .net meltdown.
agree, but some of the board has started to drift off of the ideation of drafting anderson

hot takes and other reports indicating anderson isn't worth the hype:

his combine didn't wow anybody either
