This started in another thread, but it was getting off topic.

How the hell does the coaching staff decide who to play where at LB going forward ? Someone mentioned that our LB play actually looks better with Wagner out.

I think it's due to there not being a big dropoff with Wright being in the middle, as it minimizes his weaknesses being in the middle.

We're also seeing Smith emerge and playing well, and we're also seeing Irvin making an immediate impact with limited experience.

I only think Irvin will improve going forward. He has the talent to be the most elite edge rusher we have, and his physical skill set lends itself well to him playing in space. From what I've seen, he's doing a great job sifting through the OL wash and filling gaps in the run game. I saw him in coverage on a RB all the way to the end zone.

So what do we do when Wagner gets healthy ? No way in hell do I suggest benching Wright. No way in hell do I suggest benching Wagner.

Here's something to blow your mind: I'd love to see this.....Wright in the middle. Irvin at SAM. Wagner at WILL. Hmm....BOOM !

Re: Dropoff

It was against the Titans and the Cardinals. Not exactly the best teams to make a case for a major shakeup.

We haven't yet seen what Irvin at Sam, Wag at Mike and KJ at Will looks like in multiple games. I think the coaching staff wants to.

Move Wright back to WLB. I think the norm is the fastest LB plays the at Will, and Wagner is much faster than Wright. My question is, which position due you value more MLB or WLB and which position do you want your young core franchise LB playing? I ask that because I don't see us re-signing Wright after next year. So, if you are like me and think Wagner is a core franchise type LB, then you probably don't want to jerk him around by playing him at MLB, then WLB, and back to MLB. Just keep Wagner at MLB if you think he is going to hold down that spot for the next 8-10 years.

Maybe we shouldn't make permanent roster changes based on what our linebackers showed versus Ryan Fitzpatrick, Carson Palmer and two bottom-half rush offenses.
