I thought that was a ticky-tack call. Geno was not clearly out of bounds when David hit him.

It was way late from what I saw Smith had a step and a half out of bounds when he was hit.

Garbage. I would bench, maybe even cut a player, after a stupid and selfish penalty like that. you can't play selfishly like that and cost the team so greatly. Turrible

Watched the replay several times and Geno Smith had not even gotten his first foot out of bounds when he was merely shoved out. It was a ticky tack call at best that cost Tampa the game. There was no need to throw that flag.

It was a weird call because Smith was angling toward the first down and David was locked in on him. It looked horrible at first, but wasn't the stupidest play ever (it was close though). I've seen that happen 50 times, and it wasn't called 25. It was against the Jets in the Meadowlands and in the dying seconds. No way a ref doesn't call it on Rog's favorite team. Poor kid. He hustled to the end to try to prevent the guy from turning it up and got burned. If this defines his career I'll feel awful bad. I already feel awful bad for him. You run to the whistle and get burned for it and you could see him crying. He cares. He isn't saying, "Hey, I get my paycheck either way." He was angry at himself and blamed the game on himself. Why didn't anybody else contain him from the backside? Why was he chasing him down from behind anyway? You have a QB that isn't that mobile anyway, and you leave a clear lane for him to run outside and gain a first AND get out of bounds in the dying moments? Poor poor defensive play for the other 10 guys on the field to set the wheels in motion.

I think it was one of those calls that IF Smith stays upright, there shouldn't be a flag. IF he goes down...the ref hasn't a choice but to call it.

But whether in or out, Smith was not looking to further advance the ball and that's when the defender needs to let up. I'd like to feel sorry for David, but he makes too much money for that.
