But he's also the other edge of the sword. Today he placed more value in consistency and "playing football our way" than he did winning. He doesn't like to adapt, and in the NFL that kills you. Run, run, run against a defense stacking the box, on a 6-0 streak at home, that's #5 in DVOA or something ridiculous like that.

Schotty did what he was told (a few boneheaded calls notwithstanding). Bevell did what he was told.

They won, but not enough.

Let's see if next year, Pete can recruit enough talent to overcome his pride.

Nope, to him getting within 1 score juatifies the way he wants to play. He will say, we needed one more stop, a little, more time. We are stuck for 2 more years. They could also be real bad depending on how they handle Wilson.

But we definitely took too long to move away from the run game that was failing miserably.

Schotty has to deserve some of the blame but it seemed clear Pete had a mindset going in and Schotty was likely following orders. Perhaps Pete reasserted more control come playoffs? His ego is well known. Possible. Perhaps even likely.

It was definitely one of the flattest offensive schemes for the entire season.

That said, our D was pushed around some as well. Not as flat as the offense but not the hungry youngins we've come to love this past season.

In the end Dallas was clearly the better team overall and the better team won.

Coaching wins games and Seattle get's outcoached alot. The defense played well enough to win with a competent offense on the other side. You cannot have 4-5 3 and outs in the playoffs. Got to find more consistency on offense one of these years.

Since Day 1, we've known, from media literature all over the place and every interview ever seen, that Pete is a strong hands-on guy. He doesn't surrender that much freedom to anyone. He surrendered more than he felt comfortable with to Cable, he said, and I'm guessing he wasn't likely to do that again.

We're all going to prefer to criticize Schotty because we have the sense that he's more replaceable. We don't want to think about getting rid of Pete because his departure would deprive the team of a LOT.

But that sense doesn't have any bearing on whether Pete is actually responsible for this. What we saw today, on the field, is 100% Pete-philosophy. Run the ball, play action, play "football our way".

But to say we are "stuck" with Pete for two more years?

Cmon, we are better than this. This team was 10-6 against all odds largely because of Pete.

This is true. Great when we win but painfully obvious when we don't.

Look, there has been some talk that goes like this:

Did we exceed expectations this season because of Pete or in spite of him?

It's a valid question. Those who don't like it being asked aren't fans but blind devotees. After a certain number of seasons this is how Pete's career has gone - teams adapt to his scheme and he seems to struggle to further adapt to those adaptations.

Not meant to slag on Pete but to discuss reality.

Our team did not appear prepared tonight. Offense was flat, Defense was better but marginally so.

Dallas played much more intensely. That said, it was still reasonably close (though not really as close as the final score would indicate)

We were a better team for the season than most thought we would be prior to the season but were never a SB-caliber team.

Let's see what the offseason brings.

Either it's Pete's fault for doing nothing and letting it happen, or it's Pete's fault for having a big hand in the gameplan.

It's still his fault at the end of the day.

If I were placing my bet, I would place it on Pete having a big hand in the gameplan. And Schotty following orders.
