Heading into Year 2 of the Mike Macdonald era, the expectations are high for the Seattle Seahawks’ defense.

And for good reason.

After some initial growing pains last year, the unit evolved into one of the league’s best over the second half of the season. Over the final nine weeks, Seattle ranked fifth in scoring defense, fifth in defensive EPA and fourth in total defense.

I fully trust Macdonald that if they stay healthy and get a little lucky with their off season signings and the rookie safety that this could be league best. I can't wait for the season to start.

Interesting to see who will be the most productive sack artist of this group.

I can’t really say with a lot of confidence that this person will lead Seattle in sacks.

Seattle, is really a team of “equal contributors and more so the sum of the parts are greater than the individual talent.”

I feel like this defensive line can run hot and cold. Consistency will be fluctuate among the lineman.

Sacks are like grapes, they come in bunches. ;)

And I'd rather have 4 10-12 sack guys than one 20 sack guy.

We were abysmal against the run PC's last two years here. We became respectable again last year under MM. If our run defense continues to improve, I trust MM's innovativeness as a defensive coach to make passing situations a difficult proposition for opposing teams, especially those without an elite QB. I'm hoping to be one of the better defenses in the league this year. We need our older vets to continue to play well, some of our younger players to step up their game, and I'm interested to see how our rookie safety Emmanwori looks this year. That pick had MM written all over it.

I honestly can't think of a scenerio this group regresses. With Magic Mike at the helm and a second year in the system this defense is going to FEAST, aka the Ravens. In fact, it's such a similar situation thus far it's creepy.

So enough with these stupid PFF or whatever click bait lists. WE know the temp better than any shmuck looking for clicks. We're staring down being a number one D in the league over the next couple of years, not getting caught up in fake controversies to pad somebody's click stats.

LFG!

The defense is why I have high hopes for this year. We were within a tie breaker of winning the division last year with a completely out-of-his-league offensive coordinator. Even a slight improvement in the offense and the same quality on defense gets us into the playoffs. I think we'll do better than that in 2025.

I’d love to see Boye Mafe get the most sacks

Yeah and this team starts with all its leaders in place and experience. Plus a new culture and explosive rookies to stay ahead of. Every position group has playmakers plural.

Mike Macdonald is a great coach with an innovative, creative defensive mind. We are very fortunate to have him coaching these guys up and I can’t wait for this season to start!
