There are lots of reasons to be “excited” despite contrary views.

I’m really glad to see the personnel changes that came with Mac and am happy the OLine has become a key focus with recent acquisitions the talent might just be here at long last. For sure the DLine is going to be fun to watch and maybe iron will sharpen iron. Once the pads go on it will be easier to gauge how excited we should be about this year’s version of the team.

River Dog I agree it’s going to be a process but it feels different, and better. There are now some Dawgs here Along with a coaching staff to use them properly. Even the talking heads don’t know how to correctly gauge this team and that’s a good thing. Things seem to building. I’m of course a fan boy but there are reasons to be excited, and cautiously optimistic.

". Our head coach has never been a head coach before. They're going to have a learning curve ..
This is where I'm at.
We all saw the worst-case scenario when Nathaniel Hackett took the reigns as a first year coach in Denver.

Are we going to see Seahawks fans at the game, counting down the clock on every play?

Not in the least. Quite the opposite in fact. Pete was a great coach but he was AWFUL with time management and general discipline (i.e. procedural penalties).

I don't get ANY sense that Mac will run the team the same. He's about the details.

Agreed about Pete. But The Walrus was horrible at clock management, too. I had attributed it to the fact that he had his nose buried so deep into that Denny's menu that he lost track of the game situation. But then along comes Pete who half the time wasn't even wearing headphones and he was just as bad or worse.

After having spent 40 years in management, I've always felt that a head coach should delegate play calling responsibilities, pay more attention to the game situation and be in closer contact with his players. It's one of those can't see the forest when you're too close to the trees sort of thing.

But a lot of head coaches call their own plays and are very successful, so what do I know.

Scheme & leadership are 2 things we all want to see from first year HC's, we know that Macdonald has a scheme, it's just a matter of teaching it to the players, and how long it will take for them to get a grasp of it.

As for leadership, Macdonald just recently showed that he's willing and able to hold his players accountable, which is promising. That's what makes the Leslie Frazier hiring so important, he's gonna teach Macdonald a lot, and lessen the learning curve.

I don't think Hackett had his own version of Leslie Frazier to teach him how to be a HC, and he just ended up losing control and the confidence of the players & the fans. I don't get the feeling that Seattle is gonna get anywhere near that.

I'm definitely excited. Either Macdonald and staff are going to lead us to the promised land, which would be awesome, or they're gonna suck and I get to tear them apart mercilessly every week, which is also awesome.

I'm more hopeful than optimistic. Our coaching staff is very inexperienced, our roster has a fair amount of question marks at key positions, and we play in one of the toughest divisions in football.

Our fanbase is in the honeymoon phase, where newness is seemingly evidence of betterness. And everything looks good when there's no history to base your opinions on. We'll see how that changes when they've played some games.

"Excited" isn't a good term to describe my feelings about the upcoming season. "Looking forward to" might be a better way to express my feelings.

I used to get a lot more excited about more things in general, but as I've grown older, I tend to be more pragmatic, take things in stride, flatten out the peaks and fill in the valleys. The downsides of not living up to expectations has caused me to lower the bar.

Yes, the coaching staff has a lot of potential to be a difference maker. But for the most part, they haven't a lot of experience in the NFL. Our head coach has never been a head coach before. I don't think it reasonable to think that everything they touch will turn to gold. They're going to have a learning curve just like any of us would when we embark on a new job.
Great point.

There is a lot of excitement about the "possibility" of greatness , yet this staff is young and for the most part untested. I'm getting older too so I've had many many off seasons of " this is our year" only to be brought back to earth with a thud.
I'm expecting some bumps and bruises along the way but I am looking forward to the new regime like many of you on .net

We were 9-7 last year on a rudderless ship, by all accounts. No accoubtability, players quitting. Ineffective coaching. No coherent identity on offense or defense. No logical scheme on either side of the ball.

And we were 9-7.

It wont take a lot to improve on that.

Its not optimism.

I should clarify - my excitement isn't necessarily an endorsement of this teams immediate championship capability. The entire staff is new and every unit is led by a first-timer. First time HC, first time pro OC, first time pro DC. I would be shocked if there aren't some very obvious growing pains as they build rapport and familiarity.

My excitement moreso centers around the brightness of the building blocks of the team. I feel like this team has the bones of a championship contender between a couple of blue chippers on defense in Spoon/Murphy, a blue chip receiver in JSN along with established prototype Metcalf, and a talented stable of running backs - not to mention a hell of a value in Geno Smith, who I still personally believe is capable of being a Super Bowl-level quarterback if this team sorts itself out around him.

There are so many future cornerstones already locked up, and I see a real window here if these coaches live up to the optimism surrounding their presence here.

I'm excited in the aspect that its not Pete and it'll be something finally different, but my expectations are still reserved. The Oline and LB groups still need attention I believe and who knows how the 1st year coaching will go. I'm also not a Geno fan as everyone knows so there's very little confidence in thinking he can lead the team anywhere if post season chances occur.

In all honesty, i'm seeing a 5 year process. It'll take that long to get the viable QB in place and ready.

Something DIFFERENT. Finally. While I expect it to take a couple years for the team to really get locked in, I'm gonna' just enjoy the season and see how it plays out. Not huge expectations, just hoping for better, more disciplined football in 2024. If they make playoffs, bonus.
Now.......if people start blasting Mike because the team isn't winning a bunch of games? That will be kind of a bummer. It's going to take time.

You're right, it's not reasonable. But that's what I think is going to happen. Of course, I'm "thinking" with my feelings and intuition, and I freely admit that's not exactly thinking. It's something else. Nevertheless, the fan part of my brain is all in, and I fully expect to see great things this season. Remember the drubbing we took at the hands of the Ravens last year? That's what we're going to see a lot of, only it's us doing it to other teams.

Most of my excitement comes from a reinvigorated feeling towards the defense. There are absolutely still holes on the depth chart, specifically LB, but this unit will be designed to confuse and harass opposing teams from the first snap. No more of the 'this is our base, other teams need to beat it' style, they will adapt to capitalize on the other teams weaknesses. They will be physical at the LOS and knock the OL around, that is MM's entire philosophy up front. I think Leonard Williams is going to thrive.

No more slow starts, feel them out, endless chunk plays just to not get beat deep. No more lip service about 'we're almost there' as they give up 450+ yards a week for 6 years. No more Clint Hurtt's in an endless line of underqualified 'Pete guys'. I'm sure there will be a learning curve and growing pains with inevitable busted plays but I am so pumped to see actual confusion at the LOS while only rushing 4-5. I want to see a defense that goes out there and kicks the shit out of the other team for 4 quarters, like we had in Pete's early days.
