Yes, the TD would have ended it regardless but it's a different thing when you are playing to stop a team from getting in FG range vs. being able to play your standard style.

It was a mistake. We get the FG we get to kick off, we get more time, we get to play a different style of defense.

My issue is that this is a fundamental issue of managing the team. This is something that Macdonald can fix overnight.

He's taking a very inexperienced coaching staff and asking them to keep this team on an even keel whenever they fail in these moments. And they can't do it. He's seen what this has done to this team repeatedly this year.

Additionally, he's asking the weakest unit of his football team, the one that no matter how you feel about Grubb, Geno, the LBs, anything else, the ONE unit everybody in Seahawks fandom knows is bad and saying:
I'm putting the game in your hands, guys. Show me you can do this thing that not only have you been getting slapped around THIS game, but you've been slapped around all season long, but let me put this entire game--maybe even our entire season--in your hands.

Don't put them into that situation to fail. Give your defense some breathing room. Just help your guys, man.
