Regarding preseason defensive play calling. I know that there isn't anything in the rules but maybe "unwritten" rules like in baseball , (ex: bunting during an opposing teams no hitter) regarding using blitzes since offenses are generally very vanilla .

Very John Harbaugh

I just thought I saw San Diego send a CB blitz in the 4th qtr.
Are we blitzing ? Do other teams ?

We've been sending pressure from all kinds of angles. Deploying some interesting looks with zone drops and spies.

I think teams tend to play vanilla in preseason because they want to level the playing field in which they're evaluating their 90-man roster in game action.

Thanks for the reply . Notice I only bring it up when it happens to us?
I thought that was kind of an unwritten gentleman's agreement so they could evaluate.

I've seen coaches make irritated comments about blitzes in the preseason. Personally I think it's forgivable for a brand new coaching staff that needs to get their players reps on a new system. That applies to both teams in this case.

Vanilla is foolish.

Old but true saying: You fight like you train.
Either evaluate guys how you'd use them in real life (or in what like they'd face in real games) or don't bother.

I like blitzing in pre-season. We should want opponents doing it. Because now we'll know if our guys can pick up a blitz.
