The role being ceremonial and undefined doesn't mean it doesn't/won't exist. From what we know from Pete and John in separate interviews, Pete's position would be an ambassador-style role more than anything involved with the internal workings of the team. That was pretty clear from both interviews. What's unclear is what that looks like and whether Pete would even want to do it.

The notion that Seattle offered Pete a position they had no real intention of giving him out of respect seems somewhat ridiculous. That would be the most cynical of short-term PR moves imaginable. So when KJ said there was no advisory role, he probably meant the role wasn't involved in day-to-day operations, which seems like common sense.

I can 100% see him organizing lectures to the team by outside resources... motivational speakers, influencers, etc' ... the non traditional stuff that grows and impacts players in other ways. Stopping in twice a year to inspire the guys ... and working with Mac to do it.

I don't understand why people have trouble believing this. It was clearly a ceremonial role to simply soften the blow of effectively being fired. Schneider sounded downright giddy yesterday, and bringing back Carroll in any type of advisor capacity undermines Macdonald, who will be re-building this team in his own image. He had no role in the HC search. Maybe when he doesn't have a role in the draft, it'll become clearer what the role is and isn't.

I doubt that you'll see him in the war room during the draft or doing any interviews that involve speaking on behalf of the franchise. He's even said so himself when he was asked about the HC search.

But he's still a valuable resource, especially for a young head coach like Mike Macdonald. I can see both him and JS asking Pete for his opinion quite often on a lot of matters. I know that I would if I were in their position. Why wouldn't they?

I think Pete, like Belichick, is doing his damnedest to find another active position on another team. It wasn't appropriate to have him there. Though maybe at some point seeing a friendly handshake "pass of the baton" will cool some of the tempers from folks that believe Pete got shafted.

And you are correct about John, It's like he was stuck in a bad marriage for a longtime and finally was set free. He has never been that exuberant ever in a press conference, in 14 years. I thought he was going to do a cartwheel after announcing Mike Macdonald is the new HC and do a little jig on the desk to boot.

Negative. If John and Mike need Pete's input on this, the Seahawks are in serious trouble.

Pete was stripped of his personnel powers for a reason, and gutted his staff for a reason.

Let's say you have an all time chef, but he's gotten old. He keeps burning the food. He used to be one of the best, but can't do it no more.

The new hire from one of the best culinary schools takes over. Is he honestly going to ask the guy who keeps burning the food for advice?
