Lamar Jackson is a poor leader. Check his mannerisms. He failed last night and has proven throughout his entire career he’s a stats first, win second type of player.

Hmmm. As much as I like Lamar, Geno ‘feels’ like he fits into our offense better.

I want DK, JSN, and Tyler to shoulder the load of big plays while pounding the rock with K9.

I have nothing against dual threat QBs. There’s no question that they can be effective.

But Geno is a refined pocket passes whom, imo, hasn’t had his best season yet.

I know we’re not considering contracts and I want to stay away from the F word (qb of the Future) but, I believe our next QB needs to be drafted. Homegrown…career starts relatively close to the formation time of our staff…maybe sits for a year or two behind Geno.

I’d want our QB to learn sound mechanics. If he has wheels, great. But it’s hard to groom a guy when you have to sum up something like ‘ok, I know you’ve got two pass rushers coming in. So, here you’ll need to do a 360, then step up, then twirl, make another read, pump fake, take the ball between your legs, then run to the flat”.

Lamar is incredible. Mahomes is smart and somehow continuously extends plays with his legs. Russ was a monster scrambler in his heyday.

I’d rather have Geno’s sound fundamentals if I’m thinking past 2024-2025.

I heard so many great things about this forum. Hopefully you’re just an outlier and more fruitful football debates are in my future here.

Its pretty well known in Baltimore land that one of Lamar's biggest flaws is his lack of leadership - although last year he made it a focus to improve. And has. But he's known to be a bit detached, emotional, not very vocal, gets lost in videogames, and speaks with his play -more often with razzle dazzle runs than timely passes & looking into the eyes of the guys in the huddle, teaching and inspiring faith. Its one of the reasons Baltimore was slow to give him a new deal. For all his high flying acrobatics and highlights, the fly in the ointment of his story has been his inability to play the position consistently well. Consistent highlights and incredible feats of athleticism DO NOT always equate to uktimate success. He makes himself a one man show, and in the playoffs, when better defenses scheme to stop him, he has struggled to maximize the potential of the team around him because he cant get them involved as he should. They sink or swim by Lamar. And ultimately he sinks or swims based on his ability to read defense and distribute the ball. NOT by just pulling it down and scrambling for a dozen now and again or slipping a tackle, weaving, and hitting the guy who's broken coverage after 6 seconds.

They almost let him walk because of that flaw, his lack of maturity as a leader and his recent injury history.

MVPs dont always equal championship caliber TEAM ball. From where I sit, it doesn't matter if Baltimore genetically reingeneered clones of Jerry Rice, Steve Largment, and Randy Moss in their primes to play WR for the Ravens - Lamar wouldnt get the best out of them.

They'd still be oft standing around like his teammates do now, watching him do his thing.

His lack of leadership is just that. Its been talked about by the FO as an area to improve. And its frustrating for a lot of the fanbase. This and his inability to read defense make him the love him ot hate him guy in the area. Its not speculation.

Half my family are Ravens fans. I used to ride my bike to their practice facility in Owings Mills, go to a game every once in a while and if im not talking Seahawks with my dad and Cousins, im talking Redskins, Ravens and Eagles - living in the DC / Baltimore metro is hard for a Hawks fan.

Lamar's leadership issues are directly related to his on-field demeanor. We've all seen him throw tantrums when things aren't going his way, yell at his teammates, etc. In interviews, he seems like a bright, passionate, level-headed kid, so he'll mature out of those things. In fact, he looked much more poised last season.

With that said, he's the Russell Westbrook of the NFL. An extremely gifted athlete and hard worker who is passionate about winning but lacks the touch to complete difficult passes consistently. He's a volume quarterback. Give him multiple opportunities, and he'll put up monster numbers. Ask him to thread the needle in a huge moment; it's a roll of the dice.

I feel like LAlexander is a really good quarterback that needs a good team around him to win it all. By "really good team around him" I mean some specific skills in specific areas that build a dynamic offense. I think there are several QBs I, personally, would put in that category.

Right now Jackson and I don't think it's close. A former MVP QB vs a QB who has flashed but not been able to put a complete season together. Geno has almost missed throws at times.

I'm not writing Geno off though, Lets see how he does under Grubb
