Do NOT consider age or contract.

You're running the Seahawks and you're offered the chance right now to swap Geno Smith out for Lamar Jackson for the upcoming season alone.

Do you do it? Why or why not?

Not doing a poll as I'm more interested in the rationale than the choice.

I personally prefer mobile pocket passers. No denying Lamar is an electric playmaker, but I wouldn't want my QB rushing for 1,000 yards, that's not sustainable in the long run.
His inaccuracy and first instinct to run all the time when guys are open down field would be horrible to watch..Zero vision.

Lamar, although flawed, is a floor raiser. His style of play improves the entire team. You'll need some luck to make/win a Super Bowl, but he's proven he can put you in that position. He's just too inconsistent to capitalize on it.

So, during the regular season, I'd take Lamar. Final drive or playoffs? Geno. Lamar missed three relatively easy passes to tie the game tonight. He has all the talent in the world and none of the finesse to wield it.

I don't want a RB that can throw, he goes down and then what? Having a QB that can escape and keep a defense honest ok.

If it's 1 year with a swap back at the end, no picks, and no contract considerations then i'd swap in a heartbeat. He's a better and more dynamic player overall.

Nope. He's early years Russ, hyped up on cocaine... elusive, electric, and he leaves plays all over the field. If he were faster at diagnosing coverage, he wouldn't have to pull the ball down as often as he does. If he could swap 20% of elusiveness for 20% better processing, they'd have won a SB with him already.

And I don't see him getting better at diagnosing year over year, so when his legs go, so will his game.

Nope. Not even for a year. It would be 17 weeks of the Lamar show, wondering how much better we might have been if the qb could just play the position at a higher level.

A quarterback that always has that extra threat of "maybe he'll run" could be argued is playing at a higher level.

And you must realize that Mahomes is also one of those QBs that runs a lot.

It's just mostly sideways and backwards....

Personally, I would stick with Geno over Lamar straight up. I feel like Geno has more capability to take advantage of the playmakers on this offense.

I think our offensive personnel with 3 dangerous receivers is the type of passing attack that can take a team far in the postseason, provided defense and running game are working as well. Geno is a quarterback who, when provided protection, has traditionally excelled when provided multiple viable receiving threats dating back to his WVU career.

Lamar, however, has a great regular season floor if he remains healthy. His legs are an incredibly taxing threat to a defense. This opens up the rushing game immensely. He also makes decent use of his tight ends and isn't a *bad* passer by any means - he just isn't a structured passer. You'll live and die by his playmaking ability, so the postseason is a bit of a crapshoot especially if you run into a buzzsaw of a defense.

If I'm saddled with Lamar as my quarterback, I am not mourning by any means. I'm hiring a Shanahan tree offensive coordinator to dial up a rushing attack and hiring Darrell Bevell to coordinate my pass game, as he does very well with these types of quarterbacks.

Geno, though, is much more my style. Pocket navigator, eyes downfield, and has a totally natural stroke. Ball pops out of his hand with velocity and a tight spiral. Same reason why I would've taken Drake Maye #1 over Caleb and Jayden.

I’m sorry, but this is probably the most ridiculous question I have seen on here in a long time. Geno Smith or a two time MVP, which just happened to win last year‘s MVP and we are questioning which one we want at quarterback?

Even Geno’s wife would pick Lamar Jackson

Lamar missed wide open receivers for the tying TD on two separate plays. He did hit Likely for the TD where the toe was just on the line. Exciting player, got the Ravens in position to tie.

We haven't seen Geno in the Grubb offense yet, so it's a little hard to go with Geno until we see that.

KC's DC has been able to scheme ways to beat Lamar in the playoffs, as well as beat the 49ers, so Lamar has a KC DC problem in the playoffs.

I think I'd take a swing at Lamar for a season, to at least get to the playoffs and do some damage there. The caveat is the time it would take Lamar to build chemistry with skill players like DK and JSN and the RBs.

Almost 400 yards of offense last night and he drove them 90 yards down the field with under 2 minutes.
Yeah the haters in this thread are right… lulz

“A poor leader” how in the hell do you get to this lame ass opinion?

Feels like there is something else tilting these takes… I just can’t put my finger on what that could be.

If I hadn’t just compared him to two other black QBs I could see your stance, but I did, so you can take your race bait and potential thread derailment somewhere else. Nice try

Lamar Jackson is a poor leader. Check his mannerisms. He failed last night and has proven throughout his entire career he’s a stats first, win second type of player.
