I am not ready to blame Cable and Bevell for the performance of the team although from an outside point of view it may seem like a coaching issue. Maybe they are covering problems that we do not know about with their play calling, who knows for sure?
However, if indeed it is a coaching problem I was wondering how this gets evaluated within the Always Compete mantra? Would an assistant coach be allowed to take over? If not, would not that go against the whole mantra? Has Pete ever expounded about this? I have read his book but I do not recall if he ever mentioned anything about the coaching being treated the same as the coaches. And anyway I am not sure how that would translate from College to the NFL.
