Bucs coach Bowles taking questions from the media, but looks like he's at a funeral. Starts with some tidbits on Buc player injuries. Then starting at 2:15, a reporter purports that there's a lack of recognizable players on Seattle's D.

Don't worry, Tampa. By Sunday evening, we can pretty much guarantee that plenty of their names will be painfully seared upon your brains.

To an extent they are right. How many defnsive players in the NFL are "recognisable"? We don't have a Miles Garret or TJ Watt on the team. The most well know Seahawk Defensive players are probably Leonard Williams and Witherspoon but how many fans of other teans would know them? Some of that is because we are in a media backwater and some of it is because we haven't gone deep in the playoffs for a while.

How many of our defnsive players were "recognisable" at the beginning of October 2013? By the end of the season everyone knew about them.

That's the thing, though, "recognizable" to whom? To people who cover the NFL or obsessed fans like us, all sorts of players are known on teams rosters beyond the defensive megastars of the NFL. But I doubt the average NFL fan can even name the team the majority of the second tier defensive stars play on, Pro-Bowlers and the like.

I don't know. It's just another one of those lazy comments/opinions by a national media pundit.

Depends on whether the "don't have a lot of recognizable players" comment was A) the forgivable I-don't-memorize-every-name-on-every-roster admission or B) a belief or opinion that the Seahawks' D is mostly pedestrian. Hard to know which, from that press conference. Doesn't really matter, I think Seahawks' D of 2025 and beyond will soon make a name for themselves.

Yeah I read that somewhere this morning. Obviously the reporter doesn’t know anything about football and basically embarrassed himself

Well, most of our defense is kind of young, and haven't had enough time to develop "star" recognition.

I believe that stars grow out of good teams, which is why adding "stars" through FA so often disappoints.

Fans don't know players, but a reporter..that's their job. Know about the team that "your" teams is about to play.

I think it's an interesting post, even though I don't care if anybody knows the names of our defensive players, it's interesting to see an NFL Reporter fail at their job. Who's he work for? ESPN?

Also, the only team to go undefeated in a season, their defense was known as the "No Name Defense."

I bet the average fan can't name three defensive players, perhaps not even two defensive players on any team you asked of them other than their home team.
I can't name one on another team, so...

I know 90% of these but couldn't name another, say LB on the Colts next to Zaire.

I know Jaycee Horn because of his old man.

I know Joey Bosa because.....duh....Bosa.

I know Fred Warner because....he's a piece of sh*t.
