Interesting, Greg Olson starred at Richland high school, then at Central and later coached Jon Kitna at Central.

I am speculating but Greg Olson has worked with a lot of young QBs in his career. This goes way back to even the beginning of his career with Kitna.
  • 01: Helped Jeff Garcia have a career year. 32-12 TD:INT season.
  • 04: Helped Joey Harrington improve to a 19-12 TD:INT ratio.
  • 06: Helped Marc Bulger have a career year.
  • 10: Helped turn around Josh Freeman after a horrible rookie season. 2nd season saw a huge jump to a 25-6 TD:INT ratio.
  • 14: Helped a rookie Derek Carr play pretty well.
  • 15: Helped turn around Blake Bortles in his 2nd season on way to a 35-18 TD:INT season.
  • 17: Helped turn around Jared Goff in his 2nd season on way to a 28-7 TD:INT ratio.

I do wonder if the team is planning for a young QB in some capacity. Not saying an early round QB but this hire is interesting. Olson knows the McVay/Waldron system. He also has a good history with young QBs.

His resume is stronger than the one that left.

As an O.C -- his offenses do tend to stall after a few seasons. He's not an innovator. As a QB coach, I think he's actually really good. He has helped turn around a lot of young QBs. Especially ones that were viewed as raw or developmental. I think this is a good hire by the Seahawks.

He's the perfect guy to bring someone like Anthony Richardson along. Awesome hire!

The Peter Principle has played out time and time again with him.

Quarterback coach is where he's effective, and long-term OC is where he falls apart.

I know a little about him as we are from the same area and have a similar circle but yeah a lot of its promotion and these coaches have so many connections that they tend to follow their friends or people they've coached with so they're comfortable bringing him in. He is a super sharp guy though, I can vouch for that. If we go rookie QB or even if we have Geno I think he is definitely good with quarterbacks.
