Tate was certainly underrated in Seattle, and now that he's in a pass-happy offense, I think he may be a little overrated. If I'm not mistaken, his efficiency stats with the Lions are roughly the same as they were with the Seahawks. He just has a lot more targets now. That said, I thought it was a great signing by the Lions, and the offense really missed his uncanny jump ball ability last year, as well the favorable field position his punt returns provided.

A lot of people talk about Harvin costing us the chance to re-sign Tate, but I'm not totally sure Tate was ever in the long-term plans, with or without Harvin. Right or wrong, I'm not convinced the team viewed him as a must-keep player. I do think, however, that Harvin cost us a chance to sign DeSean Jackson last offseason. I remember they kicked the tires on him, but with Harvin's massive contract on the books I don't think it was ever a realistic possibility. DJack in this offense would've been incredible.

We still on this? Hint for you....the NFL has a salary cap. Deal with it, especially when said dude is boffing the quarterback's wife.

Trust me Lockett will make you forget Tate ever existed and it will get ridiculous once Richardson is back.

I agree with the long term plans thing. I loved watching Tate play but there is a reason he couldn't get on the field the first couple years. While I don't see him as any kind of locker room cancer I always got the feeling he was lacking in maturity. Amazing talent but really not the person you want to make your long term plans with.

I think we are seeing something similar with Christine Michael. Tons of talent but when looking at how the team is made up and the type of character you want from your leaders, he is struggling to fit in. Lacking in work ethic and maturity.

Those athletic freaks are great but not is they don't buy in and fit in. Percy was a good example of that. That me player who believes the game revolves around his talent and not the team.

Let these guys go and make room for someone who will fit in. We likely wouldn't gave Graham or Locket if we weren't willing to make those tough decisions.

Way to many teams try and manage those personalities and in the end it ends up costing them their success rather than making it.

Unsubstantiated rumors rearing their ugly head again, nice.

It's probably never going to be "proven" but you put all the pieces together from what we know and I don't see how anyone with their head fully out of the sand wouldn't think something very fishy didn't almost certainly happen...

I try to not deal in hypotheticals whenever possible in regards to people. This also keeps me from being a conspiracy nut, which I like.

Sonics going to Oklahoma was hypothetical when Clay Clay bought them..........................Until it wasn't.

People in Seattle called it as soon as it happened.

I love Tate as a player.

For my money he's basically who Michael Crabtree was supposed to be when Crabtree was drafted.

Historically, ignoring opportunity and just focusing on talent, I'm bullish as heck on him and seriously think Tate is the as good or better than Hines Ward.

He's always had the ability, but last year with Johnson out people finally got to see what he can do as the focal point of a passing attack.

Just a really great player who is a ton of fun to watch too.

I am seeing Lockett as Tate 2.0. But with more speed! So we got that going for us!

Loved me some Tater though! I blame Harvin more than the Cap for his departure! Glad to see him excelling in Detroit!

JS must still kicking himself over that move.
Why would he be kicking himself over that move? It was good for the team at the time. Anyone who doesn't think there was something deeper going on when Tate was let go has no clue. Has has excelled in Detroit but how could he not, he is a very good WR in a pass happy offense......he would have never performed like that here! He was a very good punt returner but he doesn't even do that for his current team. Golden Tate was my favorite player for the Seahawks but I would not trade Tyler Lockett for him at this time, Lockett returns both kicks and punts and has the extra gear that Tate did not have plus he has shown he can catch the ball.

The "deeper thing going on" was that the Seahawks had just dumped a ton of draft capital and salary into Percy Harvin, and J.S., like almost all Seahawks fans at the time (and many others, myself included) thought that Golden Tate was expendable because he was basically a poor man's Percy Harvin.

They made a mistake. It happens.

I "hate" Harvin more than any of you, and knew he would be the biggest failure by Pete and John.....and that is where a lot of you guys have it wrong.

Harvin didn't cost us Tate. Pete and John cost us Tate by giving out a ridiculous contract.

Harvin was a mediocre WR in Minnesota and already had well-known mental problems as well as an injury history. Most of his little success in Minny was as a RB, which is a position that we didnt need Harvin for.

Pete and John basically did the opposite of what made them successful.

Instead of making players compete, Harvin got a spot automatically.
Instead of finding a player to fit a needed role, they chose the player first and then tried to fit him in.

They also assumed that he would be healthy on the Hawks despite not being healthy on the vikings.

In terms of draft picks given up AND contract given out AND the on-field production we received, the Harvin trade is one of the 3 worst in NFL history. Some trades will beat this trade in ONE category (picks, $, production) but the trifecta of giving up so much in draft picks AND salary and getting soooooo little production from him makes this one of the all-time trade disasters.

And 100% of the blame belongs to Pete and John, because we received the same Harvin that the Vikings had and decided they no longer wanted.

To say Harvin was "mediocre" in Minne is just plain wrong. He was an MVP candidate before he got hurt in 2013, and most of that success was not at RB it was at WR. Dude was balling, he's just insane. You are correct that it was an awful trade though. If only Captain Hindsight were here...
