Maybe cover all the bases and pick a 3rd and 4th team… how ever many it takes to feel good at the end of the year
It's not like that at all. I fell in love with the Lions in the Barry Sanders days. It was BECAUSE of Sanders' running style. Scott Mitchell and Herman Moore and some of the other WRs were fun to watch too (but without Barry I'd never have cared). They actually made playoff appearences back in those days too. It was also years the Seahawks looked hopeless.
Nothing wrong with being a secondary fan to another team. I always root for teams with no titles to get one. I was somewhat stoked to see the Lambs get their first, but since both they, and the Titans were titleless, and the Titans were the dogs, I was disappointed because I was rooting for them. Same thing the year Cincy lost (though I did not watch that game).
Vikings another, and Falcons too. That's all stuff after the season is over anyway, and it happens mostly after we're done for the year one way or another.
I always have rooted for the Lions to make the playoffs, but I stopped watching after Barry retired. I started again when Campbell got us into the playoffs and last year. I'll never root for the Lions over the Hawks, but when Seahawk hope is gone, I'll always root for these scrappy, hungry, disrespected team in Detroit.
To this day Barry Sanders (and less so Napoleon Kauffman), are my favorite RBs all time. They had a similar style but Kauffman was a Raider, and the coach though he was too small, so they never featured him.
Hell I'm old enough to recall "Air Coryell" fondly. The Chargers had the INSANE offense. I rooted for them because that was so fun to watch, was hard not to. That was a fondness for the players though, never the Chargers as a team.
