Was watching Houston's week 2 game on Game Rewind last night and it made me nervous as hell. JJ Watt is so, freaking, scary...

Anyways, was strolling through FieldGulls today and came across this: http://www.fieldgulls.com/football-brea ... edule-2013

Provides a couple of helpful animated gifs to acquaint the unacquainted with our friend JJ.

Curious if the likes of Scotte or Kearly would be willing to give some thoughts on how this weekend's offensive line matches up against this monster. I didn't see any use of this RO wrinkle mentioned in the article.

I fully expect to see Seattle break out a read option wrinkle that Chip Kelly broke out at Oregon in 2009.

I guess the only positive we can look at is the Texans LT Duane Brown might miss this game as well, It might end up being a "Sack Happy" game for both teams. who knows?

JJ watt is a beast. However he is not the Texans only defensive weapon. The Texans are solid on defense. Yes there are some areas that we should be able to exploit, but we will deff need to bring the "A" game on offense. IMO we won't score a ton on them. I think this game will be similar to the 9ers game, in that our defense will hold them to fewer points than we score. As y'all know I'm no expert. This is just how I see things going. I too would love to hear from a couple of the resident gurus. You know who you are. Come on with it.

I doubt think Watt could be any worse for us than Smith was, my real concern is McQuistan. Apparently he is getting the nod at LT again this week. That seems really stupid to me with Bailey available. Maybe Bailey hasn't looked as good in practices?

I am looking forward to this game personally, the Texans have a respectable squad and should be a great road game for us to test how we play on the road with a good team.

I remember Kelly did this vs. Fairly in the NCG. U leave the 3 technique unlblocked and u read the play based on whether he comes at the QB or the RB. It's a very interesting idea.

I'm not actually scared of J.J. Watt.

Watt can create so much havoc but if their is such a DE in the NFL Wilson can successfully night-crawl or Houdini the ankles off its DEs like J.J. Watt.

Agreed, his Sparq rating isn't nearly high enough for Wilson to be disturbed.

Dude, STFU your opinion on this subject has become rather redundant.

Oh and btw... Zach Miller > Vernon Davis... at least in this last game.

I think it was you who was drooling all over Bailey after the first or second preseason game. If it was you I hope you were right about him because we need a good LT bad. Have a feeling Okung could be out 4-6 weeks.

Too bad Watt left Wisconsin after his Junior year or Wilson would have had valuable playing time against him (pro bowl notwithstanding) in practice. As it stands, it would be foolish to believe that Watt will not be spending time in our backfield. You just need to be able to mitigate his impact once he is there. This is where a Mike Rob would be invaluable IMO. They will likely be picking on McQuistan (unless by some miracle Okung is back?) as it appears that Carpenter is up to speed now and even Breno looked pretty good in the San Fran game.

One needs to know that McQ didn't get a single snap in last weeks practice at LT. If Okung can't go, at least he will get practice time at the position.

I'm not going to look past the Jags in any context....thats whats right in front of us. Both teams still have to play before we play the Texans. Alot can change before then. Any week an average DE can have a 1 time pro-bowl performance, and any week a pro-bowl DE can have an average week. Keep your eyes on the prize :)

I also recall that was a really, really, really bad idea. This only works if you can isolate the player on the wrong side of the play. It's not going to work with Watt just as it didn't work with Fairley.

I suspect you run right at him. I think that's the easiest way to deal with him. If you put four men at the point of attack, you will wear him down.

I think you might also do a fair amount of traditional option, with a pitch out, to isolate him. (He can't tackle two guys...)

Yes, JJ is a great player, but I think Carolina has a better front seven overall.

We're discussing matchups. I'm unclear as to why it's too early for fans to discuss any game on our schedule with regard to player matchups.
