I rewatched the 2000 AFC Championship game between The Ravens and Raiders. That Ravens D is Stellar and shut out Gruden's offense. That Ravens D is what I envision once our D settles in. That D is where our current D is rooted from. Our D probably won't be as dominate as that, but maybe it will.

I'll be pleased as punch if they can get as good as the 2023 Ravens D was. They flat out made fools of our Waldren-led O in that game.

I know we've only seen a few preseason & one regular season games (vs a rookie QB) but this defense is freaking different. They'll have some bumps and bruises along the way as the level of competition is raised , yet they are going to get better too.

This defense is actually making tackles at a much higher rate than last year. Making tackles is the key to having a top tier defense. Good offenses will make plays but if you limit the yards after catch/contact you can limit how effective the offense will be.

If we continue to tackle well and get multiple players to the ball consistently our defense will be fine

This right here ^^^ x1000! It would be AWESOME if our D turns into the LOB 2.0, obviously. But I will be ECSTATIC if we "only" wind up a perennial Top 5-10 defense year after year under coach Macdonald! We would have likely won 2 or 3 extra games last year.

What I really liked hearing was when i think it was MM that said , we really didn't even have to open up the playbook against them meaning there is much more to come

They kept the play calling basic last week. We may see some more exotic plays this week. That can of whoop ass is coming week 6 and the heavy artillery will be blazing.

I can. Time is flying by too fast already. But you're right, sooner is better than never for our new D to take matters into their own hands.
The best coaches I ever heard said "If they can't score they can't beat you."
