So are we better now throughout the organization than we were before dippy? I have hated many things he has done, but I also like a lot of things he’s done, is that normal? We just added a killer lefty and all sorts a stuff, Jerry definitely has nickeled and dimed his way this far and built and a pretty stout stable. Remember when there was no hay in the barn and we had Robinson cano, I do miss Eddie. The results have not been plentiful but has he moved forward enough to earn a little time?

He had a top 10 payroll every year with Angels and never won a playoff series.

I believe up until this year, he had never drafted a hitter who became an All-Star. Cal being the first. Yes Julio also if counting foreign signings.

I just think for as much as he has failed in the present he has done a lot for the future. Maybe if he can shrug some of these last mistakes and all these great young talents he has set up things will start changing.

Don't ever extend based on minor league potential. Potential just means haven't done anything yet. Remember how Cole Young was hyped in those prospect lists? To date his is barely average. Yes he is young, but still not a guarantee. My point is Jerry has built nothing but an average team. 54% winning team you could say. When you see GM's get fired after making multiple playoffs, he shouldn't be awarded more time based on what he has done to date or who he has in the minors. Just my opinion.

Whoever takes over will be stoked with the farm

Yes, but still not a guaranteed future. But if you know talent as a GM (I don't think Jerry does), you could come in and trade top prospects that you think won't make it to their potential and get real MLB level talent. Something the Yankees were great at and the Rays seem to still be great at.

Yankees sold us on their untouchable prospects like Russ Davis, Sterling Hitchcock, Montero and Sheffield to just mention a few.

I got a Jesus Montero autograph I pulled out of a pack, you interested?

Sterling Hitchcock sounds like a cy young award though

Considering he isn't allowed to spend a ton of money I have a hard time blaming Jerry. He's done a good job with home grown talent.

Jerry spent nearly $50 million in one off season on Haniger, Garver, Polanco, and Urias. That same off season, he got rid of Geno, Teo, Kelenic, and Ray. Those moves made the team much worse and cost the M's more money.

That off season was the final straw for me with Dipoto. They were on the verge of being a serious contender, but instead of just adding a solid bat or 2, Jerry got rid of our 2 most productive hitters not named Julio, and replaced them with washed up, oft injured guys that were only marginally better (if even that) than replacement level players.

Jerry isn't as hamstrung by payroll constraints as people seem to believe. It's not like they're bottom 5, or even bottom 10 in spending. They're almost always middle of the pack. They're 16th this year and they were 16th last year when they had the worst offense in baseball. There have been many teams recently that have done more with less. The Tigers are spending less, and the Brewers are spending much less than the M's this season.

If Jerry needs the luxury of a top 10 payroll to get it done, then he isn't the right guy for the job.

Like I said above, he had a Top 10 each year with Angels and got ZERO playoff series wins. He is mediocre GM, but a great salesman.

With the farm system he has drafted maybe it’s time to let some one else fine tune it?

Yep, great point. Even with a top 10 payroll Jerry still can't get it done.

Time to move on from Jerry, imo.

Here is an example of my point. This is MLB's ranking of farm systems in 2021:

3rd Mariners:

2020 midseason rank: 4
2020 preseason rank: 9
Top 100 Prospects: Jarred Kelenic (No. 4), Julio Rodriguez (No. 5), Emerson Hancock (No. 31), Logan Gilbert (No. 33), George Kirby (No. 92), Taylor Trammell (No. 100)
Top 2021 rookie: Jarred Kelenic, OF
The Mariners' rise continues, as they've jumped from being unranked in 10 consecutive Top 10s -- from preseason 2015 through midseason 2019 -- to having baseball's third-best farm system. The dynamic outfield duo of Jarred Kelenic and Julio Rodriguez is the highest-ranked pair of prospects in the game.

I just hate these ranking even though I look at them. We have had good rankings in the past and yet nothing to show for it winning wise.

We have no idea if that farm system is ever going to bear any fruit. We had the pieces to be a very good team just 2 years ago. All they needed to do was add a solid bat or two. Instead of doing that, Jerry set this team back so much with the moves he made that we're back to hoping some prospects save the day at some point in the next several years.

"Just keep waiting."
