Ok the team has it's identity now, cool use of the term and it's implications for opponents.
But as fans we should embrace our position in it as well.
Seattle has been in the Darkside for a long, long time.
First as an expansion franchise, best record ever of a new franchise to first playoff appearance.
We were feisty, inventive, determined and as a fan base a family from the start supporting them from day one.
Then we got good under Chuck and had some bum named Easley with Dave Brown, Joe Nash, Jacob Green, and others that began our love of Defense, it became a trademark of a Seattle franchise, our offenses were up and down but we even in lean years had defense, Tez was a defensive player of the year on a team that won two games.
The lean years I call them were Behring years.
Then came the Holmgren years and we won consistently
Pass that torch to Jim "Cough Cough" Mora.
Then quickly to Pete Carroll and more winning.
We didn't wait for the bottom out this time and brought in Mike McDonald and we are winning convincingly
Through this history we have always seen a East Coast Bia, the team in South Alaska, the team they cut to commercial on during the draft,. The team that may not get highlights that night, the team that gets passing comments when thoughts on being a legit contender comes up almost always. The one they mis pronounce players name during broadcasts or comments, or may not remember the coaches name.
Having a Superbowl taken from you by the NFL and officials.
That's being the fan of a team on the Darkside.
To get a spotlight on us.....
We kick the door in, we beat up the Mediot darlings, we shout we are here and not leaving anytime soon.
LOB did it with Carroll, beat the most prolific offensive team in history like a drum in a Parade, did so in the Media capital of the world New York City in the NFL headquarters back yard.
The spotlight was in Seattle for the next 5 to 7 years. They were blinded by the light of the Darkside, the fans that came to New York left a impression not matched. They said it was like playing a home game for the Seahawks, less noise but enough.
So when we don't get the accolades the rest of the teams get, I know
When we are treated with East Coast Bias, I know
When we are disrespected by mediots and others, I know
We will rise and kick the door in once again, say welcome to South Alaska, meet the Darkside !!!!
