Yeah, Lock isn't great I totally agree. But we did get a free pick last time he left us and he isn't a bad back up option. Especially at at 2 years for 5 mill.

I like Howell and wish they'd give him a legit shot. Of course Lock didn't really get a legit shot in the "battle" with Geno at all.
That said I hate this BS because it just signals that the dumb arse in charge is going to AGAIN NOT draft a QB. I don't care if it is in the first round or the seventh just DRAFT AN EFFING QB YOU EFFING LOSER!

I agree with ^ JayhawkMike. Neither Qbs got a legitimate chance in our system to make ground and start in our system. I think it would be interesting to see. Although a friend of mine a Niner fan and voice of the niners during the season said that Darnold throws accurate Darts to receivers. He said it is concerning to the niners.

I saw a lot of Lock's college career so I know what his capabilities coming into the nfl were. I like him but think he has been buried by less than stellar handling in the league. Given better circumstances I think his ceiling could be high. I guess you could say the same for Howell but between those two I would prefer Lock.
With Arnold one good year after several that weren't I feel like we have a Geno repeat. That may not be a bad thing but at this point I'm not sold and I want to see some new blood in the QB room that has shown genuine promise during his college career vs high end competition.

People have been whining for years that JS hasn't addressed the QB spot. He's been open about following the Green Bay model and sitting a potential starter for a year or two. MMac and Kubiak don't know Lock and don't know much about Howell, but JS does and likes them. 5 mil is a pretty cheap price to get 3 months of exposure for the coaching staff to decide who might be worth hoping to develop. This is a good thing. Maybe it doesn't result in anything, but it gives one more path to a franchise QB in 2 years. Maximize the possibilities, limit the costs, choose the best option at each opportunity.

I was one of those. I very well might have been wrong on him. He really only got in once (and in a very difficult situation, although he looked like he had never played the position before). Maybe having Lock on board will bring out something better in him. I'm not completely writing him off yet, but I'm far less optimistic than I was when we initially acquired him. I am fearing that the Bieniemy offense that allowed defenders to tee off on him constantly might have destroyed him mentally.
Being wrong on occasion isn't going to stop me from expressing my opinion. What fun would that be?

Darnold will raise the Seahawks to a higher level.
Can't imagine they'll keep all 3. Just trade Howell away and get at least something, even if it's a 6th from someone. Sometimes you take a shot, and it doesn't work out. It's not like Howell ever got a shot. He wasn't going to be the answer, imo. But then again, we never got to see him even start a game.

Taking a shot can pan out. Is it guaranteed? Nothing in the draft is. I don’t expect every team to find a Purdy with the last pick.
As for QBs that have been drafted and where their career currently sits, the same theory that some applied to Jalen Carter should be reciprocated.
Folks said that Carter may not have looked as good in Seattle. That he had Georgia teammates that may have helped reel him in with Philly.
Isn’t it also possible that some of these QBs that aren’t fairing well could’ve looked better in Seattle?
We’re on the path of refurbishing QBs that otherwise were stagnant in their careers. I’m not knocking it…Geno exceeded expectations imo. Darnold? Definitely showed out last year…this season is TBD.
You have to start taking shots at some point. Our statements about such and such not being better than our current guys (I’ve heard this in previous pre-drafts) is absurd.
It’s called development. Potential. Growth.
With the Lock signing, I believe this is yet another year where we don’t take a chance…

Many say that NFL QB is the most difficult position in sports...
Lock has at least shown himself to be a capable backup. Who in this year's draft would you rate above Lock?
How long would any QB taken in this draft need to develop just to get to the level Lock is already at? Three years?
We weren't going to get Jayden Daniels for example, without a top 5 pick. Who is the next Jayden Daniels that the Seahawks will have the opportunity to draft? Yeah, every now and then a Kurt Warner comes along, or for old-timers, a Johnny U, someone who perseveres and develops despite seemingly insurmountable odds.
I think the Seahawks investing in Lock's development and meantime availability as a proven backup is a better bet than hoping to find another Brock Purdy in the 7th round.

No argument here. And you’ll never find me claiming that a guy that hasn’t played a single NFL down is better than someone who has.
White there is merit in going with a proven veteran, if your draft philosophy is only picking up a guy who’s better than a current guy or a rookie, you’ll never truly know what may have been.
