Do we need a true Leo to improve our Pass Rush

Funny I didn't think I would say this but Jacob Martin would be really nice to have right now.

Could Vic Beasley be viable buy low type that could help us get to the QB. They guy is on the block and had 15+ sacks on a few years ago.

I think that we really do need a true Leo. Clowney is a great all around DE but he isn't a traditional speed rusher and he is getting constantly double teamed. Beasley would be pretty cheap probably but I'm all about trading for Yannick Ngakoue. Dude is an ideal Leo, is a proven commodity, and is young (still 24). I would be willing to trade a first for him and sign him to a big deal (he's a free agent at the end of the season). Defensive Ends tend to take time to develop. If we draft a DE they most likely won't be ready for a while. Yannick will contribute this season and we would be getting him in the prime of his career. Jacksonville is having a down season and there is a solid chance he's on the block. Dude would change this defense overnight.

I don't think our pass rush is that big of an issue from a talent stand point. The biggest issue is that teams know how to attack our scheme to mitigate the pass rush's effectiveness. We some how have the 8th best pass defense, and teams seem to be keying in on our LBs in the quick passing game.

Obviously, more talent in the pass rush would help, but at some point the problem goes deeper than talent. I genuinely think our issues are by choice. And look, I get it from Pete's perspective. If you look at a lot of the more important advanced stats we're not as bad on defense as you'd think looking at DVOA or traditional team stats.

I posted in another thread that perhaps the Hawks should get Queen in on obvious passing downs. Get some speed on the edge. He already seems to be active most games so it wouldn't take a roster change.

It's more speculation than a rumor. He held out over the offseason looking for a new deal. The team doesn't have a lot of cap space (5 million or so) for next year but could clear up space by releasing people. The issue is less why would they trade him, it's why would he stay? The Jags could tag him (and release people to clear room to sign him) even if he wants to leave. So, it seems like somewhat of a Jalen Ramsey. I'm not saying that it's a sure thing, but if it was open (and I think it would be) I would support it.

This is what I see. Predictability and unaggresiveness in the scheme, combined with poor situational personnel decisions. Doesn't matter who is on the dline when teams routinely know exactly what they will see and know exactly how to attack it.

Was watching the 49ers broadcast, and they mentioned how our cover 3 was figured out, but the 49ers run it with certain tweaks with great success. I bet that 49ers dline would look average with our defensive coaching and scheme

The Jaguars just got a fortune for Ramsey, I doubt they would trade Yannick for peanuts. They will get at least a 3rd as a comp pick so it would probably take atleast a 2nd.

We definitely need a LEO - Clowney is a wrecker but we lack a true quick twitch speed guy. Ansah has declined so much it isn't even funny. He runs like a DTackle now, I like his hustle and effort but definitely not a Pro Bowl player anymore.

If they just want a straight 2nd Rounder for Yannick then I think the team should really consider it, if this type of move were to actually be made that is.
