I didn't know that people could be protected if they sell their seats on Ticketbastard. Damn. I've never sold them on Ticketmaster. Makes sense if they're protected.
I've never heard that from anyone though. Very interesting.
Yes. I don't remember where I first discovered this, but it's true. Hawkblogger mentions it here, in his post on this issue of The Disappearing Home Field Advantage in the NFL.

Out of respect for Aros, who is the registered STH for the tickets I have, I only sell on Ticketmaster, or to someone who is well vetted.

I have family in Cleveland and this was a huge issue in the 2016 World Series when Cubs played the (then) Indians. Lots of local ticket holders sold their tix to fans at a 3 or 4X premium and games 6 and 7 were defacto Cubs' home games. There really isn't any great option other than, as mentioned, win and enjoy winning.

Easier said than done.

Unlike Dallas or Chicago, Green Bay and Minnesota are relatively small markets, and the fact that they have more fans that are not only willing to pay for a game ticket, but in most cases, spend money to travel and stay a couple of nights tells me that we just don't have the fan base anymore. If there were more Hawk fans interested in attending the games, there'd be more buying tickets off the same sites that Packer and Viking fans are getting them.

It's going to take a deep run into the playoffs to create some excitement and win back the trust of Hawk fans.

you know what fixes this problem? WINNING. Get your shit together.
I think normalizing this way of thinking is part of the problem. This is being a fair weather fan. This is not what being a true 12 is. I would say it's the fair weather fans that should "get their shit together" or get lost.
Players make the game exciting for fans and fans make games exciting for players. Teams can't win every game and players certainly don't want to feel abandoned by fans during tough stretches. Obviously everyone likes winning more than losing but It's not like the Hawks are too terrible to watch and cheer for.
Although not perfect I believe our organization is one of the best in the NFL and they want to win. If I thought the players, coaches and owners didn't care maybe I would stop caring so much. I think, being that they are human the players feel the same, they want fans to care.
Over the years I have been proud to see our team get support from fans through tough wins and even tougher losses. Our fans have helped put the Hawks over the top in a ton of games. When fans are loud, proud and rowdy it gets the team pumped, it causes real problems (communication & penalties) for opposing teams.
When you give up that advantage it gets used against our players and helps the other team, that simple.

Would "winning" make ticket prices drop? All the "spoiled fanbase" talk sounds like it's coming from privileged people. There are a lot of fans who want to go to the games and yell their asses off who simply can't.

On a spreadsheet
He's been doing his job.
Kind of.

23rd in yards
33rd in receptions
25th in targets (not good, considering where he is in receptions)
19th in ypc
69th in TD
18th in yard per game
4th in fumbles (breaking the top ten, time to celebrate)
1st in receiving fumbles lost (he's number one)
70th in YAC
51st in receiving 1st downs.

13th in salary

Beyond that, watching him play (out muscled on contested catches, dropping catches he should make, etc.) can be painful at times.

But if you are looking for a big bodied highly paid decoy, then yes he is doing his job.

What perplexes me is that fans from other cities are willing to pay inflated ticket prices, plus travel, plus time away from work, to come and watch the games, and Seattle residents, with their 3rd highest median income in the country, can’t cough up for just the tickets?

I understand that many/ most fans aren’t in that higher wage earning bracket, but I would think that it is a similar wage bracket to the fans traveling here to cheer other teams.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Prior to 1999, the Hawks had only a couple of years of success. They were still known around the league as the loudest fans.

I think it was the pricing out of Seattle of the rowdy fans, and I’m not just talking about ticket prices.

It's utter bullshit to call others out for selling tickets. Have you walked in each of their shoes to know why they choose to sell?

Financial hardship is a real thing and you shouldn't judge a person who is trying to make a dollar any way they can.

I could write a book on this topic but that about sums it up for me today.
If someone has financial hardship and they are still buying season tickets obviously they don't have their priorities straight...

Double edged sword. Yes, I would hope that fans would hold onto their seats. However, with prices sky high and some people facing economic hardship, it’s sometimes hard to pass up.
This is an ownership issue. There are scalpers out there that own multiple season tickets. They only care about the highest bidder. There's thousands on the waiting list. Limit the number of season tickets an individual can own and real fans will buy the seats!

If you're able to go and/or have the means, you should go, 3-win team or 13-win team. You're either in or you're not. I feel very fortunate to be able to go. VERY. As long as I have the means to go, I'll be there.
People are making great points on all sides of it. When teams start to lose, naturally less people go. This isn't just a Seattle thing.

Dear Mr. Metcalf

First off, The team needs to WIN at home before you can justify telling fans not to sale their tickets.

Secondly, You Mr. Metcalf. You sir need to step up and win on your own and start having good games, I mean people are paying alot of money for these tickets. for what? To see you Mr. Metcalf have 3 catches for 45yds?... 🙄

I'm getting real tired of people blaming the fans for losing at home, Be a man an accept your own responsibilities for these loses at home because the whole agreement "We're not winning at home because there's to many of the other teams fans at home" is an absolute joke..

The Hawks record this year is -

Home 3-5
Away 5-1

That's not a record of a team that's timid playing in front of other teams fans, it's not the fans' attendance that's the problem the problem is in your own heads as a team playing at home...

And it's funny, TO ME, how bent out of shape some are getting over a simple, accurate comment.
Just the usual blown out of proportion stuff. Meh.

There are a lot of people here who probably would have suicided in 1992...

Honest question here. What are the benefits of having season tickets holders in general? I get what they are for the people who purchase them, but what does the organization benefit other than having a certain percentage of tickets already prepaid for the year? I would imagine that a team like the Seahawks would still be able to sell out games if all tickets were sold individually while in turn providing more opportunities for more actual Seattle fans to purchase tickets on a game to game basis.
