Can someone explain to me what the heck happened with that delay of game penalty?

The Cards took a timeout, and it was like the play clock never stopped. The Seahawks took a delay of game penalty IN THE HUDDLE which I have never seen before.

Then Wilson throws his hands up asking what was going on. Carroll was furious. But then they just let it go and no one said anything about it.

I was so confused. The Cardinals took a timeout, but it lasted about 5 seconds and the play clock kept going. I thought maybe it was a mistake that they said the Cards took a timeout, but even the Seahawks thought they did.

Does anyone know what happened there?

It was a 30 sec timeout and we had 25 seconds on the play clock to snap the ball after the timeout was over, as is the rule. I can only guess that we weren't aware it was a 30 and thought it was a full timeout instead.

Yeah that must have been it. Just strange cause they didn't even cut away to a commercial which they do even for 30 second timeouts it feels like.

I was wondering what that was all about myself. The officials were totally lost last night.

Pete couldn't hear the whistle starting the play clock over the sound of his smug walk.

Thing is, I heard them announce the time out, but they didn't announce it as a 30 second time out. They ALWAYS announce if it's a 30 second time out, which is probably where the confusion came from.

I had to leave for a bit so I turned the game on in the car. The ref definitely said that it was a 30 second time out.

First timeout is normally a full time out. This was the Cardinals first time out so the team assumed it was a full time out. They did not hear the 30 second announcement, and did not hear the whistle indicating that the play clock had started, and did not see the play clock.

It was really Wilson's fault. At the time out, he stayed out on the field in a loose huddle. That allowed the refs to blow the whistle and start the clock. If he had gone to the sideline, the refs would have come over to them, and told him the time out was ending, and would have waited for him to get in the huddle before starting the play clock.

If Wilson is ANYWHERE other than in the huddle, they can't start the play clock.
