Wagner was far from awful here. Slower sure but awful is the play we got from or LB who replaced him and Brooks. Thankfully they got Knight involved and traded for Jones or our LBs would have been trash this year.
I think he just got misused and was forced to play in space in a soft zone. Washington doesn’t use him in the same fashion. He was bad in coverage but I don’t blame him.

Who wasn’t? Our defensive game planning was horrible. Wagners strength is up near the line of scrimmage. He still excels there.
Which is why I was good with Pete leaving. People can blame Clint all they want but it was bad for years.

Pete protected his assistants and it rightfully cost his job.
I’m getting off topic but I am curious to see how he does with a fresh start if he gets hired this cycle.

Larry Izzo and Darryl Tapp are also on the coaching staff, and Nick Bellore is on their roster.

At least it was a close game unlike the other 4 so far.

Ok. So the Browns could have chosen to give him the time he needed and would have been better off that they are now.
How much time do you give?
He had a 5th year option, they didn't feel he was worth the extension
and he wasn't at that time.
He had to work his way into getting one with Tampa, he still gets reckless
turnovers like you saw last night and he is not elite either.
He's better than Geno at this point however as @Ozzy says.

Baker had an historically good rookie season (set the all-time rookie record for pass TDs, passing Russell Wilson), decent second season, and then in his third year threw 26 TDs to 8 INTs and led the Browns to an 11-5 record and their first playoff victory in forever. How much more do you need to see? They actually did pick up his fifth-year option, which was worth $18.8m. He had a poor fourth season while trying to play through a shoulder injury, and then all that "wanting an adult" stuff came out and they traded him to the Panthers.

He was progressing about as well as an awful franchise should have expected. I don't know where this implication is coming from that he was trash until it finally clicked with Tampa.
