What did Cardinals do to frustrate Russell Wilson?

"The Professor takes a look at the Seahawks' shocking loss to Arizona, and the scheme that forced quarterback Russell Wilson into a bad performance."

On the Cold, Hard Facts page there's a Clayton podcast from last Friday: "Clayton says Seahawks will see better 'D' from Cardinals

John Clayton previews Sunday's matchup between the Seahawks and Cardinals, and explains how the Cards' defense has improved since Seattle's Week 7 win over them."

Warren Moon on Bob & Groz:

"Warren Moon weighs in on the Seahawks loss and says the problem was two-thirds of the Seahawks didn't play well yesterday"

I'm starting to get a little more anxious when we actually have to punt. Maybe its the angle of the TV camera or something, but it sure looks like our punts are on the verge of being blocked every time since the last couple of games. The urge to get downfield in a hurry to stop the punt receiver is one thing....but #1 should be protection of the punter and giving him time to do a good kick. Our punts have not been very stellar in positioning and length recently and I sort of think that has to do with Ryan being rushed.

2/3rds didn't play well. I'm thinking Offense and Special Teams.

The defense did the bend but not break. The interceptions instead of points is what really made the outing so great, but Arizona ate up some serious clock a few drives.

I've noticed this as well, it's like they learned nothing from the field goal attempt and punt blocks. Those are game killers.

I believe when we drafted Ryan that he was known for a bit of a slow release. Perhaps teams are just now learning to exploit that.

You're right, of course, first priority is getting the kick off. If that doesn't happen, well we know the results, unfortunately. Kick blocks can be huge, because there generally isn't anybody back there to chase down any return.

Sea 3rd down efficiently: 2-13. AZ 3rd down efficiency: 6-19. Offense didn't do their job, defense did theirs. Defense can only be expected to do theirs for so long until something breaks, or in the case of Sunday, a perfect catch/throw is made.

The offense had 7, Three & Outs. 7!

So in this particular case... NO.

Also, on the last Cardinals TD drive blame McDaniel for a stupid PF penalty, don't blame Maxwell, the dude defended that pass not once but twice but Michael Floyd made an incredible effort to not only secure it once but twice.

Before the free 15 yards on the McFoul, Seahawks D was well on their way to suffocating another Cardinals drive.

An unheralded factor in the loss. Big run-first drive in the second quarter that our run D just could not show up for.

Guess what? If the D holds the Cardinals to more 3 and outs, they're on the field less. And drive extending penalties are on the D too. Well on their way means squat if they didn't get all the way there.

I almost think your joking...

Apparently, the avg 3 and out % is ~23%, seahawks D posted a 31% 3 and out rate, considerably higher than the avg. The offense on the other hand wad less than 20%. They clearly werent pulling their weight.

Penalties killed Seattle and gave Phoenix half of their 3rd down conversions.

Wow, thought I saw blame of the defense in a post a couple of posts back. WTF are you smoking? The d can only handle so many shots, especially bombs. Maxwell played that pass perfectly. As mentioned he swatted the ball out twice. What is the D supposed to do under the current offensive minded NFL rules?

At some point the Hawks offense takes the blame. Number one on the O list of blame is Russell Wilson. BTW our punter is not very good at booting long, field position punts. Yea, the Hawks have the league best return yardage on punts. Waaaahoooo. When Ryan punts it 30 yards WTF do you expect? This team has serious flaws and they start on offense. The punter is a close second.

Ryan was a free agent that we signed after the Packers didn't resign him. As far as his abilities, he is one of the best punters in the league, but is under orders to limit return possibilities. I think that after Jacquizz Rodgers' 34 yard return in our playoff loss to Atlanta sunk us Pete decided he needed that issue addressed, so we have gotten both punt and kickoff coverage doing things a little differently to curtail the opponent's chances. What I think we need to do to keep the rushers from getting close to the block is tighten up our line splits.

Never said this game wasn't on the offense. I only said they aren't the only ones with their hand in the TOP battle.

I really can't stand the whole idea that the Seahawk's loss against the Cardinals has been (more or less) blamed on third down performances?! I mean really? Both Carol and Bevell have come out this week and stated (basically) we lost "because we didn't convert on 3rd downs". This is implying that: we would have won - had the offense gotten first downs on third down. WHAT?!!! This, to me, is a poor excuse. They could also say that: the Seahawks lost because they didn't get first downs on first down, or first downs on second down, or first down on 4th down... :? IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IF THE TEAM CAN'T EVEN GET A FIRST DOWN ON 10TH DOWN - FOR THAT MATTER!!!

The bottom line: THE STAFF AND THE PLAYERS NEED TO PULL UP THEIR BOOT STRAPS AND TAKE SOME REAL ACCOUNTABILITY FOR WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH OUR OFFENSE AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! ITS WAY TOO LATE IN THE SEASON TO MAKE EXCUSES!
