So, pardon my memory....but when was the last time we ever received first? also, what happened, did we actually choose to receive or did they defer?

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but Pete generally defers whenever we win the coin toss, so if we get the ball first it's almost assuredly because the other team won the toss and deferred
