Just hope Jackson isn't getting picked on to start. Good news is the Rams are a shell of an offense now.

Haven't they seen enough from Jackson and Brown during preseason to know Brown could possibly be better as an option to start? I remember Jackson giving up a LOT more plays than Brown did during the preseason games. I only remember one play where Brown didn't wrap up correctly and allowed the receiver to keep going in one game but corrected it in the next game and did a lot better. What is Pete's obsession with Jackson?

If I am McVay I am going after Jackson all day.

He shows glimpses of great CB play but gets burned too often for my taste.
This is a bit worrisome for me.

If you’re correct and I see no reason to think you aren’t, we are going to be the laughing stock of the pundits opinions.

All the current hype says we are a very improved defensive with a top back field.
If we get beat deep repeatedly in the opener it’s not gunna be fun for us fans.

Mike Jackson and Woolen starting corners until Spoon gets healthy probably by week 3

I think we are going to see a lot of talent packages this year. Some of them will be populated specifically to exploit specific personnel match ups.

We are in for a backfield treat this year.

Jackson definitely has me worried. Is Tre Brown that bad? Even when Witherspoon comes back he's missed so much time its gonna be a while before he gets up to speed. Pass rush better get there....

I thought Artie Burns was better than both Brown and Jackson...and thats not saying much.

What did you expect he actually thinks Jamal will come back at 100% like by game 2. And I don't give a shit about Jalen Carter he's a Philadelphia Eagle hopefully he has a good career. I don't believe in hoping people fail that's asking for bad karma.

The public and media are not privy to what is practiced during the week. We are all in the dark except for those tidbits that come out during press conferences and such.

We'll have to wait to discover the meaningful team combination of personnel and technique coaches are planning to go with verses the Rams in week one.

Bryant being the starting nickle, my concern is the lack of communication between him, the linebackers and Jackson last season. There were several long pass plays we gave up that went from left to right across our zones when better communication would have prevented several of them.

Bryant got most of the reps in pre-season. That part makes sense.

Jackson is a bit of a concern, as has been noted. Maybe the coaches see something in film we don't.

If Cupp is out or slowed up, it's a good opportunity to see how Bryant handles nickel.

Game 1 will show if last year's problems were largely because of talent or communication. If BWagz replacing Barton suddenly lines up the backfield properly and avoids blown coverages, it'll be a big season. If McVay can target Jackson all day and the 2nd level gets dragged 3 yards on every run, there may be a few posts in here about the DC....

Yes, last season's play left some lingering concerns. Understandable.

That nickle spot is very demanding. It's something of a target in a defense designed to narrow the field and herd the passing action into the middle of the field. Coby has expanded his "big picture" understanding by including some safety play during training camp and preseason. And, it's only his second year after having survived a year that some think had too many cooks within the coaching staff.

Last year was the first year Jackson saw significant snaps. So, I'm looking for a jump in his play in this year's environment of one less cook.

The read and react scheme up front is gone. So there should be more clarity earlier on for all of the defensive backfield. I expect more consistent play out of the defensive backfield.

Jackson = “It’s not how you start, but how you finish”. Hawks will improve as the season goes on and be a brut when the season finishes.

I'd prefer to see Brown as the corner opposite Woolen. I'm just not convinced Jackson is all that great even though he has the size Pete likes. But he seems to be the high floor low ceiling option. Brown might not be the physical presence of Jackson but he plays tough and has a higher ceiling for the position.

Coby is a good choice at Nickel since he's year two and should have adjusted more to the speed of the game.

And I hope once Spoon's hammy heals, it stays healed.
