So this is about coaching youth football. We are about to have our first game Saturday. I am kinda the offensive line coach. Really my job is to constantly remind kids to watch the ball and tell the center to keep his snaps down. Then on defense I gotta do everything I can to stop all my linebackers from blitzing and all my tiny little rookies from tackling everyone around the shoulders. It’s hard to watch these undersized little kids go head up with 110 pound stud and get creamed. Coaching football is one of the funnest things I’ve ever done and seeing a kid get over his fear and put his body into a big hit is the most rewarding part. It’s getting to help these kids overcome moments that make you a man. Football is the best for a reason.

So we had our first wolf pup game yesterday. We got smoked. My son got ejected for a blind side block which was actually pretty text book. Grown ups ruin kids sports. Coaches screaming about hitting and parents screaming about why isn’t my little Joey in there! He’s the best player… gtfoh…. I feel so much desire to help these kids learn how to fight cause that’s all it was yesterday, who is ready to fight. We are a soft team in a soft retirement community surrounded by cities full of reservations and kids from the street who are tough as nails. We gotta learn how to fight…. That was so hard to watch and so helpless not being able to make anything change

We played our rival last night. Got beat but the refs robbed us. Took away two fumbles, one ref overruled the line judge and took away a first down on 4th down and we got a targeting call that gave the other team the ball back after we stopped them on 4th down.
The refs three feet away did not call it targeting but the head official (who has two kids on the other team) came from across the field and threw the flag for targeting. The player who got the flag is my son. The head ref then proceeded to storm across the field up to my son screaming and cussing “HOW MANY TIMES DO I GOTTA TELL YOU TO NOT LOWER YOUR DAMN HEAD!”

He screamed that at a 12 year old. I wanted to snatch him up so bad…

You can see in the picture it was a beautiful hit.

I coached my sons team in grades 1-6.

I’ve also helped coach him and his teammates in 7th and 8th.

It’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve done. It definitely helps that my kid is a monster at RB and our MLB. Watching his development and that of his teammates…beautiful.

We went to the high school orientation today and saw the head coach…he had all his players around him and when my son walked up, he said ‘that’s RB1 right there’.

My boy is usually reserved emotionally…but he smiled from ear to ear when the coach said that.

Pure motivation for this off-season!!
