Been calling it since the Chipster was hired in SF. The Niners are a dumpster fire. Oregon is where the Chipster had his most success, SF is a blackhole for HC's, Oregon has a job opening, Uncle Phil has the $$$, the math adds up..

Pete Carroll went 33-31 in the regular season, and was promptly escorted from the playoffs. Under Pete Carroll the Jets had an epic meltdown from what was looking to be a winning season. He quickly lost the locker room. He was then hired by the Patriots, a team that finished 11-5. From there the Patriots record got worse every year under Pete Carroll. I don't understand how you can label the guy as a "success" from his first stints in the NFL. Even Carroll himself admits that he did not have his philosophy defined until he spent some years at USC, and that his time there was an important part of his success in the NFL.

There were external factors here for sure, but every coach has to deal with those. It is part of being a competent leader. The Patriots and Jet fans do not look fondly upon his time in NE and NY like we look upon in his time in here. Carroll is a different coach than he was back in the day, when he only was able to get a hair above .500.

On the actual topic, for better or for worse I think Chip is dead set on staying in the NFL as long as he is allowed to. My guess is he'll go back to college with his tail between his legs at some point, but I don't see him going voluntarily.

As for the 9ers, they're still paying Tomsula for the next two years ( :lol on top of Chip for another three ( :lol: ), and I seriously don't think the team is anywhere close to talented enough to justify paying for three head coaches at once in an effort at a quick fix.

Think of Tomsula's year as the Dennis Erickson year 2003-2004. Chip is this team's Mike Nolan, which is fine.

True, but these guys get paid to do analysis on stuff like this. So when you just look at what happened 10 years prior, and regurgitate lazy talking points over and over(hehe's a rah rah guy), without some new and fresh insights, it just makes you lose credibility, if there even was any.

Harbaugh probably can be a good nfl coach without a gm to ruin it, but all we heard about Kelly was that he was the second coming, same with harbaugh, while Pete was laughed at. I remember also comparing him to Saben saying college coaches don't work in the nfl.

It's gotta be all about the gm/coach relationship though. Kelly could probably flourish in the right situation. Or maybe he should just be an offensive coordinator

Yeah, Pete went 6-10 in one season with the Jets. His replacement got 2 years and went 4-28. How about the fact that after Pete went 27-21 with the Pats, Belichick went 5-13 to start his stint with the team before he got the roster sorted out? They could not be sure he would be fired and College coaches were already being snapped up, if he would have been fired a few weeks ago then yes I think he would have went there.

Got an alert tweet from Rapaport that Kelly and staff are safe and Baalke's job not safe.

Word around the league is that it's 49er personnel not coaching that's the issue. At least on offense...defense probably 50/50.

My only issues with Kelly long term are two fold:

a) Everything under center - not a huge fan of that
b) Guys like Carroll & Fangio might have his offense's number.

Stuff regarding too many defensive snaps, etc. might be a concern for winning playoff games but it surely isn't making the 49ers defense this bad on its own.

With regards to offense it made me think..."what is the most ideal offense to run?", and I think the answer is the offense that has the ability to consistently move the ball 50/50 air or ground, with some level of explosiveness. That's why I like Shanahan's offense the most typically, because it seems to strive for that more than most other offenses.

Relying solely on strategic concepts and limiting what you can do by eliminating being under center, I think offers a limitation that will prove difficult to overcome on the championship NFL level.

I wonder if there was an established NFL OC that could look to incorporate elements of the Kelly offense (i.e. a few of their plays) and then just use it sporadically as spice, like the Wildcat use to be employed.

Like if Kap went to the Broncos under Kubiak's system but they employed Kelly's stuff here and there......or Bevell running some Kelly concepts.....

I think there's a happy medium to what he does.
