Everyone who knows about running back knows K9 is an outstanding talent. NOW people are seeing that Charbs is as well. The fact is they are different types of talent so I don't see it as fair to compare them. What they are is a great team of running backs for one team to have. Rankings are one way to cause...(crap. forgot the word. starts with a d). Trouble! Ha. We are blessed with multiple talented running backs and that is something I have always hoped for due to the frequency of injury at that position. We are now, thanks to an improving O Line, in position to maintain a strong rushing game to achieve the overall balanced attack we desire.
I am very pleased to see Charbonnet receiving attention for the work he has put in. He deserves and has earned it.

Can someone explain to me how Charbs succeeded where K9 hasn't most of this season. Did the O-Line finally click this game? does Charbs just have a more adapted style vs the Cards? A lot of posts last week slamming Charbs saying how weak of a backup he is and a wasted pick blah blah blah. Nothing about that game made me happier than seeing him have a great game. I also liked seeing McIntosh getting reps and helping the cause.

Things are just gradually getting better. Last week Grubb mentioned recognizing that he had to change his approach and make things less complicated. He also ackowledged having needed time to get accustomed to the pro game. SL being inserted in the lineup is a nice upgrade for the strength and violence he brings, and now, the line finally has continuity.

It's obvious the run game as improved from the oline perspective, but I wonder if Charbs is a better fit only in the sense of his patience of allowing blocks to setup. Right now, only the coaches really know and it would be nice to see Walker in that counter scheme or on the jet sweep run, but I'm curious if Charbs made it work even better.

They actually decided to start NFL level run blocking in this game.

I haven’t watched every running play closely, but I certainly can’t remember any counters being run before the Cards game. Maybe just because they failed miserably with our practice squad right side.

Walker has the bad habit of dancing around in the backfield instead of turning it up field. Whether it's because he's waiting for the 'perfect' hole to open up (ala Alex Collins before AP straightened him out) or scared of getting hurt again (ala Curt Warner post knee rehab), he doesn't have an NFL running back mentality.

Everyone on the defense can run a 4.5-4.7. You might make one or two people miss, but once your feet stop it's over. The numbers will get you. If you want to be the starter, first you need to avoid negative plays (by turning it up field) and then the big plays will come.

Charbonnet has that mentality. And it doesn't just prevent negative plays, it makes your line better because once the back has turned up field, only the blocks at the point of attack matter.

As someone mentioned the blocking was better but K9 and Charbs are two different styles. K9 hasn't trusted the hole and that's why you see him break the ball back or to the outside. He wants space. Charbs wants to get north and south and be more of a punisher so he will go full speed ahead. If K9 just trusted the blocking a little more he would look a lot like Charbonnet.

The team blocking chemistry was the best of the year verses Cardinals. Wonderful Game. I've replayed and slow mode and stepped thru this game frame by frame on multiple viewings this week. Great momentum building game.

Bolded the most astute comment in the thread. If everyone would please watch the All 22 breakdown on youtube from the Ravens fan that has decided to follow Macdonald with his youtube channel, you will see him point out that the Cardinals were following the motions we used in our previous game in anticipation for the play we ran against them last game. The player that was moved, we were running almost every time into the gap they vacated. Our offensive coaches finally had a really good gameplan. Our oline finally has a couple of guys who can pull effectively. Charbonnet benefitted from that beautifully.

This week Seahawks meet Pittsburgh. Last week, Breece Hall went crazy v the Steelers. It should be a reasonably good game to run regardless of who leads. If it's obviously one-sided again, there isn't really any question anymore.
