Except now he's going to have to overpay bad linemen rather than good ones.
And that is the problem.

Ideally you draft OL and then you retain them. But it is always better to overpay for good OL then mediocre ones on the open market.

Is JS willing to spend a first round pick on a guard or center?

Let's show Garrett Bradbury a .NET welcome, I checked him out, he is a perfect Schneider offense lineman.

Vikings fans have had to put up with terrible IOL play for about as long as we have, and he is universally disliked by that fanbase.

IOL needy fanbases don't hate great centers.
Yep. People still lament over trading Max Unger, who was a Tim Ruskell draft pick a million years ago, and was good, but probably not even one of the 20 best centers of the 2010s. Imagine if we had the better Pouncey brother or something.

simply incorrect at 310 that puts him as big as ANY of the centers in this year's draft. BTW there isn't a center in the draft projected to go higher than round 3,
Yeah. The centers in this class seem somewhat underwhelming. I like Seth McLaughlin, especially in a wide zone scheme, but he's coming off a torn Achilles in November.

From 2012 on he was definitely one of the better centers in the NFL. He had a couple seasons where he missed a lot of games. And part of 2013 and a lot of 2014 after which they traded him. But he was one of the better centers when healthy. I think he might be the last olineman that actually made a Pro Bowl for us as well iirc. Would have to look that up to be sure.

With a one-off exception of Duane Brown, all FA OL, especially IOL signed by Schneider has a pattern, and Garrett Bradbury fits that pattern.

Schneid's doesn't fool around with left tackle. It's the rest of the oline and particularly IOL. I agree with what you say. He doesn't like investing heavily in top graded lineman. Brown and a second contract to Britt. That's pretty much it iirc.

Even that contract offer to Will Fries would have been something completely new for him.

While I'm not a fan of his pass blocking numbers, when did you become an expert on Centers from other teams?

Relax, it's a joke ✌️
It's just a matter of research. My question is why it's laughable to suggest that a center most people agree is bad is... well, bad.

This draft is so good for interior oline but if Darnold loves him then bring him in. It's hard to know how bad he is because he was surrounded by two terrible guards which can create an environment were the center has no chance.

At the minimum maybe he's another body to see how it all plays out.

Ok, many got their way. Bradburry just signed a 2 year deal with the Pats.
And for the record, I never once said I wanted them to sign him or not to. Was kind of just neutral on it.

Sounds like he was pretty bad in pass blocking, so that's w/out a doubt something we DON'T need here in Seattle.

I think we dodged one. If Darnold had banged the table for it, I would've been fine to swallow that pill but I really want more upside at the spot.

Good point. Like Fries refusing to come here for a physical. Could have dodged that one too. You're right on the Darnold thing. If this guy was great, I suspect they would have made it happen.

It seems odd that any team would give a contract out with no physical like that. Almost inconceivable.

Lots of amazing prospects in the draft this year. Athletes on par with Creed Humphrey, Landon Dickerson, Jackson Powers-Johnson, Tyler Linderbaum, and others this year. Some guys who could legitimately be pros at any of the 5 spots. I expect that this'll be looked back upon as one of the best OL drafts of the decade.

Lineman if you have a good coach can be had all thru the draft, physical size, good feet, lateral movement ability, strength good balance and pop and quickness can be eye balled as well as the body type for growth or adding weight. Getting the player to put it all together. Holmgren also wanted smart guys to be able to understand his concepts better and faster, Tobeck, Chris Grey, Walter and Hutch were that as well.

Best graded guys in the draft have had a good coach to get them started it seems, not that others can't be as good, also they come from more NFL ready programs rather then spread offenses. I hope the new staff can work with the guys we had to bring them up a few pegs, I would draft a LT in top 20 but Guards, you have to be a special guy, Hutch was but rare.

I don't think you need to be a HOF guard to be worth a top 20 pick. Plenty of guards would be top 20 picks in re-drafts. Guys that were picked in the top 20 like Quinton Nelson and Chris Lindstrom or even guys outside the 1st round like Landon Dickerson and Joe Thuney. Plenty more to list.
