Tinker, then the long snapper for the University of Alabama, found himself huddled into a closet with his girlfriend, Ashley Harrison, his roommates, Payton Holley and Alan Estis, and his dogs, Josie and B, at the house on 25th Street.

Tinker, Holley and Estis all survived the ordeal with only relatively minor injuries. Harrison, they later learned, had broken her neck and didn’t make it, one of six Alabama students killed in the storm.
