I remember this guy, he was a hot Cubs prospect until injuries
derailed his rise to the majors.
If he's finally healthy, I seriously mean the sky is the limit with him.

I hope he gets a chance to stay healthy. He's had a rough few years of battling injuries, everything from a broken back to a concussion. Some really serious stuff in between, including some major surgeries.

In looking back at the top prospects of 2021, I noticed a few interesting things. Julio was #5 and Jared Kelenic was #4. Emerson Hancock was #31, Logan Gilbert #33 and Randy Arozarena #34. George Kirby was #91.

Sad thing is that Wander Franco was the #1 prospect, and he will likely never play major league baseball again.

He's having the best spring out of everyone. He's been in the minors for awhile. Could absolutely make the 26 man.
Emerson hasn't been playing a lot lately it doens't look like he'll be in the line up opening day.
How many 2nd baseman do they put on the 26? Will it be just Young and Rivas?

Not sure why Leo Rivas seems to always get overlooked, forgotten about, and/or disregarded, but if you want more on base players, his .387 OBP is awfully damn good. The guy was an on base machine last year when given the opportunity to play. And while his other hitting numbers aren't exactly amazing or eye popping, they're significantly better than Young's numbers.

Rivas will make the team as an utility guy, most likely beating out Miles Mastrobuoni, but I could be wrong.

I wonder if Dipoto trades an outfielder to make room for Brennan Davis?

This is kind of what I mean when I say it seems like Rivas is overlooked and/or disregarded. I mean, it seems like Young is viewed as a serious contender for starting 2B, yet Rivas is viewed as a backup/utility guy, but not a serious contender for starting 2B. But why? Rivas had better hitting numbers across the board last year. He hit for a basically league average BA and OPS, but a very high OBP. Young hit for a well below league average BA and OBP, and an absolutely awful OPS of just a hair over .600.

I just want the best player to play, but for whatever reason, it seems like most people aren't open to the possibility that Rivas might be the better player despite the fact that he was clearly the better player last year.

Because Young has potential for power and could be the next Bret Boone. Rivas does not. He's basically a poor man's Joey Cora.

Fair enough, but I thought we wanted fewer strikeouts and more on base? If that's the case, Rivas is probably the better option right now unless Young has improved a ton over the off season.
