Being reported by 710 ESPN that Brady Russell will indeed move to FB from TE. I was thinking this was something they might do. He seemed to have the temperament.

Any confirmation from the team or local beat writers?

250lbs and a pair of good hands that can catch balls. Too bad that he is a couple of inches too tall.

I like this move, we could no a lot worse.

It'll help for him to be able to fill multiple roles on the practice squad.

"Among the most important traits for a fullback are toughness, versatility, and given roster limits, the ability to contribute on special teams. And in fact, there is a player who checks those boxes on Seattle's roster, one who played a bit of fullback last year, and that's Brady Russell. Before today, I'd have written tight end Brady Russell, but Russell is indeed switching positions to fullback this year.

That's a significant development for Russell and the Seahawks, because new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has made it clear that, as was the case when he was in New Orleans, he expects fullback to be a significant role in Seattle's offense. The Seahawks can, of course, continue to add to that spot, but by switching Russell to fullback, it gives the Seahawks a viable option at that position heading into the offseason workout program." Kyle Juszczyk wants to have a word with you ;)

Mac Strong was also 6 foot... Marcel Reece 6'1 amazing full backs... the weight.. and the power is what counts.

Plus if you can't see over the fullback how are you going to see KW at 5'9/10 when he's doing his dance.

Guessing the FB will be used more for Charb and Kenny though

The last time he had a great run blocking season was in 2014

Our boy is 6'3", but we don't know if he has long legs or torso, short legs faciliate quicker acceleration but noramlly suffered a bit on top speed. Does our boy has short leg? After all, F=M*A

I don't hate it.

Literally anything is better than what we did last year. Just happy to see a focus on the position.

Would love to see power running game this year. Love that just having a FB might ease the injury bug too. Maybe K9 can play a whole season!!!

Well if he is a lead back he needs to be able to read and react on the fly to block to the cut point for the RB, 6'3 is tall, his power will be higher then most when engaging someone.

Couldn't agree more, 6'3" isn't tall, in fact short for a TE, but as FB, ideally you want the lead guy to hit the defenders below their pad level, being 6'3" makes it harder, doable but harder.

I have been joking on converting Willie Lampkin, a 5'11" 285-290lbs Center to play FB. Lampkin excels in zone blocking as an OL center, so there is that. I am quite sure that he is too slow, but hey if he cuts 15 lbs or so, he just might have enough acceleration to hit real hard.

His draft profile:

Strengths

  • Plays with consistent effort, grit and technique.
  • Possesses the footwork and athleticism to get to all move blocks.
  • Consistently works to swivel hips into position to seal blocks post-contact.
  • Leverage and core strength make him a human doorstop at the point of attack.
  • Runs feet through block engagement to stay sticky on his block.
  • Sees twists and slides quickly to meet the rush.

Weaknesses

  • Falls well below the size standards for an NFL lineman.
  • Can be out-reached into contact by long two-gappers.
  • Will struggle to set a sudden anchor when bull-rushed.
  • Long-limbed rushers can leverage their way to his edges.

None of his weaknesses as IOL applies to playing as FB.

Look at those pile-moving thighs and his long torso:
