This is a very good signing. He is more experienced than Terrell for the backup FS spot, and can probably start with more of a positive result. I don't care as much about his speed as the ability to know not to get beat in coverage. Some of Terrell's play last season was just dreadful.

This is the outside free agent signing I was hoping for. This combined with the resigning of Neiko Thorpe and signing of free agent Perrish Cox addresses talent and experience losses.

McDougald checks many of the boxes as to size, length and athleticism. His back ground as a former receiver that was converted to defensive back reinforces their search for ball skills and play makers. I would think McDougald is still growing and developing as a defensive back. His decision to chose to work with Chancellor and Thomas rather than immediately be declared a starter for the Browns is telling.

I had forgotten about them signing Cox. According to PC earlier this off season, Desir picked up the technique great last year. He is going to be a factor in the competition as well.

I am almost done with the game they had with us last season. He played with an aggressiveness that we have. He had a penalty or 2 but played pretty solid.

That is a good write up.

At the very least, McDougald would be a very capable backup at a position where Seattle’s starters missed a combined 11 games, postseason included, in 2016. But with his playmaking ability and experience, McDougald very well could push for playing time even when Chancellor and Thomas are on the field.

“That’s one thing I try to pride myself on is being versatile, being able to do different things,” he said. “Line up at different positions, close to the ball, deep down the field, wherever they need somebody. That’s how you get on the field and stay on the field, be able to do a lot of different things… Whatever the coaches need to be done, that’s the type of player I am. If you need me to cover a guy, I’ll go cover him, if you need me to sit deep in a zone, I can do that. I can come up to tackle somebody. I like to think my game is well-rounded. And I’m high-energy, I play with a lot of emotion, and so do a lot of the guys on the defense in Seattle, so I should fit in well with those guys.”

Ever since the Seahawk defense transitioned from 4-3 dominance to a nickle dominant defense, I've been expecting to see a play maker emerge that energizes that nickle defense. McDougald might be that impact addition. He certainly brings intrigue to the roster. Looking forward to seeing how he fits in and raises the level of team play. :2thumbs:

With his numbers, I think he will compete for playing time. I would be surprised if the didn't try him in the slot, or maybe even a third safety hybrid of some sort, similar to what they had in mind if Browner had worked out. This guy has improved every season he has been in the NFL, this could be a big signing when all is said and done.

From what I have read, pcjs made it very clear that he has a chance to play. The article said they had their eyes on him since before FA started, probably that int earlier in the year. They may have a specific plan to get him on the field. If not, he is instantly one of the best backup safeties in the league. Awesome signing.

Edit: also read that him and the bucs couldn't agree on a price, so him leaving wasn't performance related.
