This will have zero impact on the Superbowl's outcome. They will obviously be watching for that now. However, just the controversy itself sucks. Takes away from the games' stature.
I feel absolutely no confidence that...... you can't watch and control what you don't know what to look for! BB is one crafty (and creative) Mofo. If your life was on the line, would you bet that he won't find a way to break the rules again? I wouldn't put my head on that chopping block.

I seriously don't think he'd DARE pull something with so much scrutiny coming (which absolutely WILL be a distraction), but if he wasn't discouraged from this before.......

I'm offended at the Patriots stupidity. I mean, they could've hid the deflated balls in a casino elevator. No way would ol Rog or the league find them then.

Let's all take a moment to appreciate this post.

It really is quite good.

It has to be an even playing field for both teams in a game, doing this makes it unfair. It taints the afc championship game with the colts. It doesn't matter that it was a blowout because things were not even for the teams.

If you have to cheat to make it to the super bowl then i don't think its fair that you still get to play it, that being said there's NO way the NFL would remove NE from the game so the next best option would be suspend Belicheat right now.

If you want to put a stop to cheating then suspending Belicheat right now and not letting him coach the super bowl would be a strong deterrent.

NFL has to crack down, just have too.
They will, but not in relation to the game.

My guess is in the end some equipment manager or ball boy will get blamed. There will be a fine. People will say Belicheat a lot. He won't give a shit.

Nah, Bill is going to get something too. Roger sets himself up with decisions like Lynch past Sunday. It's too easy to paint him as bias and a pet if he doesn't.

Probably not this game, I agree there. But, I personally think this is a distraction they won't get over anyways. Moot.
I can never get a bead on the NFL and ol Rog. When I saw the gold cleats Lynch wanted to wear, I thought Marshawn is going to get fined, just like when he wore those Skittles shoes. The game day they are saying he will get suspended if he wears those shoes. Are you shittin me? Suh didn't get suspended for using his shoes to walk on a guy, and Lynch will get suspended for a uniform violation?

Speaking of which, the Pats did not suddenly decide to let the air out of 11 balls. They have been doing this for some time to have that kind of hubris. So why have no officials, who touch the ball every damn play, noticed? Why did it take a player picking one off to notice this? If the Colts are using balls that are aired up, how do the officials not notice the difference until it is pointed out?

I disagree that this won't affect the SB. The NFL is reportedly "distraught". If the Pats win, it will bring the SB into question. Everyone will wonder if the Pats used deflated balls to get to the playoffs or to win playoff games. The entire outcome of the season will be in disrepute.

If we win, the scandal goes away somewhat. We beat the cheats and justice is served. I fully expect the refs to heavily favor us. Make up for the Pittsburgh SB anyway. :thirishdrinkers:

If you are a QB with small Keebler Elf hands then obviously an underinflated ball helps with the grip, but both Luck & Brady are big guys with large hands. Don't really se how this would benefit strictly the Pats.

Besides, aren't the ball boys employed by the NFL and not by the team?

Each team has their own footballs. Yeh they might get mixed up and both teams would use the other teams football from time to time but statistically Brady would be using their own footballs more than the other teams. This is flat out cheating to make the ball easier to grip.
Are the balls stamped with the team's logo? I know they are at USC, but that's college. NFL might be different.

They're marked with the team name IIRC. There is a special set for the kicking game as well which the refs are in charge of.

The NFL would probably give the draft picks to the Colts to give Luck more help.

And this is why Belicheck cheats. What does he care? He and Brady probably plan to retire if they win #4.

See that's not fair, they used an unfair advantage to get into the super bowl and will be rewarded by still being able to play it like they did nothing wrong.

That's the NFL saying we know you cheated but lets make sure you get a chance at the championship anyway and we'll slap you on the wrist later. Why stop cheating then?

Agree with pretty much everything you said, but there's just no way that'll, ever happen.

This is just too epic of a matchup.

Hahaha

But seriously, I'm going to hold back my judgement until we hear the facts about the balls, how they got that way, and who's job it was to make sure the balls were in the correct condition.

Is the NFL testing the Colt's balls to see if this was a weather-related thing? Why didn't the referees do anything during the game if they noticed something?

Weather, Gronk-spikes, football-to-Cribb's-facemask collisions...these can all impact the ball, right? I'm no expert, but I don't want to judge until I've heard all the facts.

Unfortunately, the "court" of public opinion revs into high-gear way before any real facts are presented, or investigations completed.

I'm not seeing anything about Belichick or anyone else's involvement, other than it being the referee's job to check the balls.

I did see "part of the investigation that still needs further vetting is how the 11 footballs became underinflated," though.

Maybe we should wait for that part to come to light...seems like it might be important.
