-- First of all, LOVE the Jones trade. If we pursued a free agent this coming offseason, he was right there with Bolton in my book. But reading the comments about his acquisition got me thinking about the notion of "we aren't there yet". Our inconsistencies on both sides of the ball, would certainly lead you to believe that, but as I look back at recent Super Bowl winners, and losers for that matter, they seem to be built more as build the absolute best team you can, as quickly as you can, then when that one asset you were waiting for joins the team, you have the rest of the pieces in place. As opposed to let's find the QB then build a team. Rams built a SB team, then added Stafford to win one. Chiefs had a really good team built when Alex Smith was the QB, then the greatness of Mahomes put them over the top. The Eagles were a well built team, Hurts got them close to a 'ship. The Bucs were good, then added Brady and were great. The Niners had built a truly great team, then came up just short. ( I would argue QB play in both cost them those games).

-- So I guess I would say address your weaknesses whenever you can, so you are ready when the final piece arrives. Don't wait. Don't ever wait. Three to five year plans don't even work in the NBA, and certainly don't in the NFL.

-- It is also possible that the pieces are there, and once you start focusing on the consistency, really good things can start to happen quickly.

I'm still expecting our defense to click near the end of the year. I think they will keep tinkering and adjusting that behind the scenes. Assuming everyone is healthy for me the missing piece is guard.

Good post.

I think MOST of the pieces are there. The staff is in place. The culture is established.

Chemistry is what is missing, as is plugging the obvious holes that still remain. The move to acquire Jones is us doing just that...on the fly and NOT waiting for another draft.

If this team wasnt ready to win now JS would still be working with Pete.

Pete was let go because he was seen as wasting the potential of what was being built and jeopardizing the window that had been opened.

If the chemistry on the team settles in and we can stay healthy, there isnt a team in the league we cant beat.

We WILL be able to run and protect if Lucas is back on the O line. And we can now hopefully better stop the run with the acquisition of Jones.

I wont at all be surprised if we make a run this year. We could easily be 5-2 right now with our only losses being to perennial NFC contenders who we played with a dinged up roster and with litte rest.

That creaking sound you are hearing isnt the floor collapsing, its our championship window opening.

I agree with the OP. This team can certainly make a run , they're young and only need time getting healthy and then playing together.

I'm still excited for the future

I think the most encouraging thing about this is, if you suck at your job, we will replace you.

Good post.

I think we have the talent to make a run, we just lack leadership (and health). Once we have have an Alpha that takes over and leads by example on both Offense and Defense, we're good enough for an NFCCG. I'm genuinely optimistic that Jones is that guy, he certainly plays the right position to do it, but it's not there of Offense and that's currently our glaring weakness, IMO.
