I think if the Seahawks wanted to, they could put Mebane in the position to get some sacks.

They actually tried that in 2009 and 2010 in reaction to his 5 sack season in 2008. He played the 3 tech those seasons. He was still a good run defender those years, but his sacks and pressures actually declined (his PFF scores also dropped somewhat). They moved him back to the 1-tech in 2011 and he's been great ever since.

Mebane has been a moneyball steal no doubt. I was amazed he took Seattle's 5/25 offer a few years ago. He's worth quite a bit more than that. Really glad to see the decision worked out for him last February.
