Raiders fans have to be crushed right now, thinking they scored two first-round picks and now having to come to terms with the fact they're unlikely to get anything near that.

The Recovery Timeline

Maxx Crosby underwent surgery on January 7, 2026. This wasn't just a simple arthroscopic "cleanup" (which usually has a 4–8 week turnaround). It was a full repair of a significant meniscus tear, combined with treatment for stress injuries to the bone and cartilage.
  • Current Status (March 11, 2026): He is roughly 9 weeks post-op. Reports indicate he got off crutches about a week or two ago.
The "Standard" Timeline: For a full meniscus repair (suturing the tissue rather than trimming it), the return-to-play window is typically 6 to 9 months.
  • The Crosby Timeline: His surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, stated today that Maxx is "ahead of schedule" and expected to be ready for the regular-season opener in September. However, "football ready" and "dominant" are two different benchmarks.

PerspectiveAnalysis
Short-Term RiskMost doctors agree he'll play in 2026. He is a "fast healer" and famously played through the injury most of last season.
Long-Term RiskThis is where the Ravens balked. Imaging reportedly showed concerns regarding bone and cartilage longevity. In a high-impact position like Edge, the fear is that "clean-up" surgeries can lead to early-onset arthritis or a permanent loss of that explosive first step.
The CostGiving up two 1sts and paying a $100M+ contract for a player whose knee might have a "shelf life" of only 2–3 more elite years is a massive gamble.

I hope if the Hawks don't grab Maxx (no idea if they're even trying, and we probably never will know) that he goes to the Bengals. F it. Division Rival, let him destroy the team that shafted him.

How is he the "best edge rusher in the game?" Especially after having knee surgery? Then failing a physical?

Lots of question marks about the Ravens' "physical" bc when the Ravens discovered they could get an excellent edge riusher in Trey Hendrickson w/o giving up two 1st round picks, it calls into question the legitimacy of said "physical." I also remember Drew Brees failing a physical with the Dolphins in 2006 -- and then going on to a HOF career.

Raiders should definitely trade Crosby to the Bengals, Steelers or Browns.

yep, Ravens have been in the league, they know the issues with the injury like that and they still went with it, until, they realized, that they could just pick up this guy and not have to surrender 2 picks for him. This just feels so shady and dirty. Hope the League looks into this.

Eight pages of speculation, trolling, hopes, opinions and armchair GMing. Entertaining reading for sure!
We just won the Super Bowl and folks are already looking for the next shiny new toy. I dont trust his knees but I do trust the front office and coach to make the best decision for the team.

Ravens keep their two picks.

They give up their credibility and integrity losing leverage to make meaningful trades while the current GM is at the helm.

I’m no insider , but the GM cadre seems like a good ole boys club and those clubs have unwritten rules.

I have a feeling Baltimore just became the last number anyone will call for a while.

Man….but that’s the question. If I’m Crosby, I don’t want to be pulled out of the last two games. Yes, there’s a chance of further injury but as a player, I’m in a contract year.

I’d want to get treatment in the off-season.

Now, another NFL team killed the deal due to that injury. Perhaps this thing is real. If that’s the case, I wouldn’t be comfortable signing him for what he is demanding.

This is a HUGE ‘if’.

But did they actually kill it because of the injury.

Might have seen a pretty good substitute for a lot cheaper price, and only used the injury as an excuse?

The other GMs should freeze out the Ravens for the BS
It's possible there will be significant fallout from this, especially if he passes his physical with whatever team he ends up with. This story is far from being over. The Ravens may have escaped the trade, but they will have this looming over them. The league may end up taking away draft picks from the Ravens, though I don't think they can award anything to the raiders.

Gm's maybe but the Ravens are one of only 32 teams so agents will still have to deal with them.
