Are we getting two third-round compensatory picks?

It says in this ESPN article that the Rams are getting two third-round compensatory picks, because the Lions poached one of their people for the GM spot. Something about a new hiring initiative.

My question is, does this mean the Seahawks will get comp picks because the Panthers are taking our VP?

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/307 ... -holmes-gm

The Rams will become the first team to receive two third-round compensatory draft picks as part of the NFL's new hiring initiatives.

LMAO wow. Great way to propagate racism, Goodell. Let's add awards for hiring people of another race.

Same reason why the article is idiotic for pointing out the dude is the second black GM in that organization. Why is this news? All it does it propagate race strife. We gonna be pointing out when a dude is the 37th black guy hired by an organization, too?

This is a terrible idea. Overcorrection at it's worst. Another problem with it, will black execs and coaches second guess themselves out of fear they think they were only hired with the hope of them going somewhere else? My biggest issue with the Rooney rule is that it treats black coaches as pawns. This will only make it worse.

Believe me, we'd rather have the guy than Comp Picks. He was important in our recent success in drafting gems in the later rounds.

It will provide more opportunities to minorities to prove they are worthy of these positions. If they are not great at their job they won’t be considered by other teams so the idea that teams will hire minorities just for a chance at compensatory picks is ridiculous. If you are not currently working to get a chance to be a HC or GM why do you care. I have an idea why...

Edit: I gave my opinion in this post originally and probably shouldn't have. This discussion isn't gonna go anywhere good.

The Rams are actually looking at four potential third round picks because one of their minority consultants also looks to be getting poached.

Any actual commentary about this belongs in a politics or shack thread, but this is jaw dropping competitive imbalance for a league that is normally far ahead of the rest of the field in terms of parity.

Is their “consultant” up for a HC or GM position?

Legal racism... yay!!!

Promoting minority hires in an area that has been reserved for rich white dudes is not racism, maybe you should check a dictionary.

This is a topic that no one is gonna agree on.

The answer is no. The policy is what it is. Let's not let this devolve further, gents.

You guys (Rams) appear to have drafted incredibly well, with the talent on that D, holding things together despite paying Goff (and Gurley) ridiculous money.

If you've identified a problem with this then go upstream and try to make the channel for developing more minority candidates easier and bigger. When you just try to slap a band-aid fix like this on the end result it is purely for optics imo and only sends the inherently racist message that minorities can't succeed without the rich white man's help.

So are the 49ers as one of there management employees is being interviewed for a GM role as well. Martin Mayhew is interviewing with Washington.

The draft picks are an incentive for teams to hire and develop their own minority hires instead of hiring from an opponents staff. This is a move in the right direction, before the Rooney rule the NFL had 7 minority coaches in 80 years. Since it’s inception 17 teams have made minority hires with 3 teams having multiple. The thought that these team can or will do it on their own accord has been proven false.

And these men that are now being offered GM and HC positions already had high level executive jobs with their current team, they were already successful hence the reason another team considered them. How does rewarding the team that gave them their current position infer they “can’t succeed without the rich white mans help”.....they already succeed.

You just refuted your own argument in the span of five sentences. Impressive!

I don’t follow, care to elaborate.
